Coming off Steroids

For the past 3 weeks or so I was on a lot steroids due to my allergic reaction. I was initally taking 10 a day for 2 weeks then was told to cut down to 8 a day and now i've been told to cut down to 4.  This morning was the second morning I only had to take 4. And I was so ill this morning I couldnt get out of bed. Very bad nausea (no Im not pregnant!) and a very bad migraine,dizziness and heat flashes  When I eventually got myself up and got ready for the day, I got sick everywhere. I've never felt so incapacitated.
Throughout the day I felt a lot better,so it wasnt the flu or a bug
Later on, I was thinking,maybe it could because I was on so much steroids for so long and now that I've cut down on them,my bodys having a reaction? Has anyone heard of that happening for that reason?

I just did a quick search and it sounds like it could be due to reducing your steroids, but if you are still feeling like that, I would see if you could get an appointment with an out of hours doctor.  Maybe going from 8 to 4 was too fast of a reduction for your body.

I used to be given steroids for severe eczema flare ups- I only took them about a week and it would be a very casual withdrawal...lowering only by a pill a day, but even then I had minor withdrawal symptoms- including just kinda feeling out of it, headaches, dizziness...so I would say yes it is very likely that is the cause.

I figured that probably was the case.
I hope to never ever go through that again. I was on 10 steroids ,between  6-8 anti-histamines and 4 anti-biotics all in a day,everyday.  I was a walking pharmacy.
I don't know which was worse,taking so much medication, or looking like the elephant man due to the allergic reaction!

Poor thing!  Like Kathleen said its probably too sudden a drop between.  Like HG I've had to take 'em for eczema flare ups and they usually do a pre-packaged steroid set with a gradual increase & decrease...

I'd try and speak with your doctor or just finish it off gradually yourself.     Good luck & feel better!
