Can you get rye bread here?

I had the most awesome patty melt back home and I realised how much I miss them and certainly not a challenge to make.... it's just finding the light rye bread...I cant recall ever seeing any here, but then again, I avoid bread as an evil so tend to avoid perusing the bread aisles...............

We saw some in a Polish Deli!  Try there.

Not sure there's one around me yet, but I noticed that the supermarkets are starting to open up huge sections of polish food.... i'll have a peek. Thanks, Mindy - you're very helpful.

I confess. Stacey's the one who spotted it.  I was too busy examining the sauerkraut. ;)

I've seen the moist German-style rye bread in countless corner shops, but if you're after the light, fluffy rye bread (similar in texture to wholemeal), the only place I've seen it are the Brick Lane bakeries, who make them fresh.

It was so good!  I bought a half loaf and ate it in two days :-[

The one I got was half rye and half wheat, but tasted the same as the regular rye I've had.

They do make the bakery rye bread in Tesco and Sainsburys. Although it's not the strong kind that I am used to it still makes great toast and sandwiches. I'll have to look down the polish aisle for the one you are all mentioning. It sounds nice.

I have never found the rye bread with carroway seeds, I think in the States it is called Jewish rye bread.  My dad just loves that bread so when my parents come to visit I always make a loaf or 2.

The jewish bakeries in north london near me seem to have it.  This is the one my DF's mum always buys.  I have to say, I have never had it in the US so nothing to compare to, but I like the one they do at this bakery.  I think they sell to waitrose, but it may only be part of their "local" food initiative, so possibly only in London.
