Getting the fish stank out of dog fur
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:08:18 PM »
Apart from dumping a can of crushed tomatoes over my dog, in our very small bathroom, in our bathtub, which is still recovering from odor of fish, has anyone found something that can take the fish gut smell out of dog fur?  I don't care how gucci it is, I'll buy it.  I'm thinking of something in powder form or febreeze for dogs.   ;)  She's been washed twice and her fur is sleek and glowing...but fishy.   :P

Can you take your smelly pooch to the groomers and have them do it?

Maybe mix some baking soda into the shampoo?  Would that irritate the skin?

Frankly, I'm this close to shaving her bald, so irritation smirritation!  Nah.  I don't want to harm her.  I don't think baking soda would hurt her skin, and I may give that a try before taking her to the groomer.

If someone had whacked me in the head with a rotton fish, I'd add lemon juice to my shampoo.  Assuming there are no cuts on the dog, it does remove fish smell.  Baking soda is good for our skin, so it should be OK, too.  I'd ask the vet just to make sure.
