pfeffernuesse  - yes, I will look it up and post it here this evening.

BTW, the chocolate ones, I don't put the espresso powder in as I don't like it. And it will roll out for cut outs really well, too, though that link doesn't show that.

I have to confess I don't use American cups and spoons. I've yet to have a problem but I know others have.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Wait... You mean I need American cups and spoons? I have measuring cups and spoons, already (although I don't use them very often. The cups, anyway.) Please tell me that they're the same.

I'm hoping Santa (or my mom) will give me a set of collapsible silicon measuring cups for Christmas...maybe if I'm very good?  [smiley=elf.gif]
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

No, you don't have to use American cups.  You can find equivalent measures online or I've even used all British measures on American recipes; however, YMMV.

Oh, and how much is "One half cup" (one stick) of butter?  :-\\\\

One stick is 113g.

You might find some more help with conversions here:)

Oooh, that's yummy! I have a friend who makes it every year! I can't wait!

I just measured out the cup-measured ingredients

2 cups flour = 9 1/2 oz or 268 grams
1/2 cup butter = 4 1/8 oz or 113-116 grams
(measured the softer stuff at 116 since I didn't have sticks at home)
1 cup sugar = 8 oz or 226 grams

Hope that helps a bit.  I've actually started writing weight measurements in for the butter in my American recipes.  It's so much easier to weigh butter, peanut butter, or shortening than it is to clean out those cups afterwards with it measured in cups!

As someone else said though, don't worry about baking powder or soda.  You just put whichever the recipe calls for.  You can find both of them in the baking section at Tesco.
