Yay! I'm glad to hear everything worked out well in the end. I have mentioned to them that I'm planning to order more next year, but perhaps I'll try to remember to send another reminder.

My rellenos were a success! I used the recipe I posted earlier, but cut it to 2 eggs and 2 tbsp. flour, keeping the 1 tbsp. of water the same. It was much better. Not much heat to the chiles, but they were tasty nevertheless.

Isn't it a wonderful feeling to have all that green chile in the freezer?! ;D

The place is South Devon Chilli Farm, and they're brilliant. They gave me a substantial discount for ordering a large quantity and sent extras to boot. Really nice guys to deal with.

Well, I guess ALL is a relative term, given there were only about 28 of them, a mere pittance by New Mexican standards, but yes, it's good to know that we know where to go now.  And by next autumn, I hope to have a larger freezer as well.

I didn't imagine they would have much bite to them, first of all, it was a cool summer really, plus the climate here generally just doesn't lend itself to chilies ordinarily, but since I prefer a good tasting chili to a keg of gunpowder, I'm happy with what they had to offer.  When I get back here from Sweden next week, I'm thinking breakfast burrito, mmmmmmmmm.

Now if I could just find a good source for plain Fritos, I'd be truly content, but I suppose I can stock up when I'm in Sweden.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.

Hey, you got more than I did--I only had 25! But you had more hassle than I did, so I guess you deserve extras. ;) Those chiles take up a large percentage of my teeny freezer, though!

This is a shot in the dark, but my wife is looking to source new mexico green chile's ((I understand it's spelt that way), in the UK, but the south devon chilli farm mentioned in this thread stopped growing them - this post is 10 years old of course!!

Can anyone help?

What do they taste like? I wonder if there is a good substitute out there if you can't find that specific type?

I'm afraid I've never had them. This is all 'wife brownie points' research :-)

Oh aren't you nice.  :)
Ahh, I wanted to suggest alternatives with someone who had tasted them and had tasted the other peppers to compare. I'm from New England, where I don't know my ars* from my elbow when it comes to chillies, so I didn't want to suggest wrong.

There are some dried ones here that can be rehydrated in a pinch, I would think?

She's very specific about what she wants, so will probably end up getting family to send across from the USA if nothing else.

New Mexico chili... Hatch chili, by any chance? Roasted, to die for. Will be making a run to our local "exotic foods" (read that Lone Star and dried chilis) store later this week and will keep an eye out.  I haven't noticed them yet here in Glasgow.

I did find seeds, though, for some other N.M. varieties and am just waiting for some supplies to arrive and will then give a shot at growing them hydroponically in my little indoor "kitchen garden". I'm afraid that's the only way I'm going to get them. And a lot of the flavor depends on the soil, so whatever I do manage to grow won't be "the same." But better-n-nuttin!

Fritos. Not exactly Fritos but they taste almost identical. Available at Tesco. Old El Paso - https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/299623780

Back to your peppers - you might like Romero peppers. Nice flavor, minimal heat, great stuffed. (Not to be confused with Romano.) I've gotten them at some indy grocers here in Scotland, so maybe you'd have luck finding them where you are?

Oh, bad news about having peppers sent from the USA to the UK, You can bring 2kg in your luggage, but if you want them shipped you have to have a phytosanitary certificate.

http://importdetails.defra.gov.uk/Default.aspx?Location=None&Module=IDDSearch

    Category :    Vegetables (Restricted)

Products in Category :    Aubergine , Basil , Bitter cucumber , Bitter gourd , Capsicum (sweet and chilli peppers) , Casava leaves (Manihot esculenta) , Celery , Leafy vegetables of Limnophila and Eryngium

Import Rule :    2kg total weight per person of Restricted fruits or vegetables are  allowed. Alternatively a combination of other Restricted fruits and vegetables not exceeding 2kg is allowed in personal luggage. If sent by post a Phytosanitory certificate will be required to declare fruit as for personal use.
