Success (or lackthereof) with convection/grill microwaves
« on: November 02, 2007, 04:09:22 PM »
Our micro gave up the ghost, so we bought a convection/grill microwave.  Any successes or criticisms (probably should have asked before I bought the damn thing  ::))?  Does grilled food really taste grilled?  Any fav recipes for my new toy?

I have one and haven't used any function other than microwave. I don't really know where to start! I don't think any food will taste grilled from a microwave no matter what but I'd love to be proved wrong!

My last (shared) house had one and I used it so much my boyfriend and I insisted on getting another for our own place. The grill is fantastic for doing quick stuff like cheese toasties without having to power on the big oven (it takes half the time to preheat). We don't use the oven much but will very occasionally use it for a ready meal when we don't want to waste the time or energy consumption of the big oven. They also do cool things like allowing you to mix microwave and oven functions, which is great for jacket potatoes as you get the crisp, oveny taste but it takes half the time.

I did roasted new potatoes tonight with the grill/micro function.  Not bad at all.  Under half the time it would take to do them in the oven and the outside was crispy.
