Chocolate covered bananas
« on: November 04, 2007, 11:18:37 AM »
If anyone likes chocolate covered frozen bananas, I have a great recipe for you and it is virtually fat free!  It is from Dr. Weils website. I love them and this tastes just like what I used to make when I worked at Baskin robbins in high school. So good!! And it is a great way to get rid of bruised and spotted bananas that no one usually likes to eat, especially kids and it is a healthy dessert for kids too!

Mix in a blender 4 very ripe bananas with 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder. Add 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons real maple syrup. Blend till smooth and pour into dessert/custard dishes, put in freezer till just frozen.

Calories: 118.1
Fat:0.7 grams
(the rest of the nutrietional break down is on the website)

Enjoy

Thanks for that. I never actually heard of chocolate covered bananas made that way. When we were kids they were simply whole bananas with a popsicle stick shoved through it then dipped in chocolate.

that is the way I have always done it too, but this recipe is good for getting rid of over ripe bananas in a less fattening way for me than to make banana bread ;D also, it is a bit healthier than dipping it in chocolate and tastes just the same ;)

I think I like your way better, Pebbles!! And then you could roll them in chopped nuts! My mouth is watering already!

Mmmmmm, banana bread!  I've been saving up overripe bananas in the freezer for a little while now, in anticipation.  I hope (fingers crossed) that I still have this one particular cookbook in my FL storage unit -- of which I'm getting the contents shipped over here soon.  It had the best banana bread recipe in it - ever, that I've ever found anyway. :)

Just an anecdote... the first time I saw chocolate covered bananas, I thought they were chocolate covered hotdogs.

That's funny!  The first time I saw iced finger rolls/buns over here, I wondered why people here liked to eat iced hot dog buns.

I always froze the bananas, then used the chocolate stuff, covering, that went crunchy when you dipped the banana in it. I miss that stuff!! I have no idea what it was called.

They have it at Tesco near the syrups and ice cream cones. I think they also have a mint choc one.
