Here's a freebie for you bakers from my Aunt Betty (doesn't everyone have an Aunt Betty?)... I'm not sure what it would be like but the potato chips sounds interesting!  It's an Iowan recipe so you know it's got to be decadent!

1 lb butter (use salted butter)
1 1/4cups of sugar
2 teas. vanilla
3 1/2 cups of flour
1 1/2cups of crushed potato chips

Cream butter, Sugar and vanilla. Cream well Next mix in flour and last potato chips.  Dough will be thick.  Bake 350 for 12 to 15 minutes ungreased pan.  Sprinkle powdered sugar over warm or hot cookies.

This is a great idea! I'd love to participate! All of my coworkers last Christmas were a bit baffled as to why I baked so many Christmas goodies and then gave them each their own bag of cookies, tied in red and green curling ribbon, of course! :)

One girl did ask if this was an American thing...

Oh I like the idea of sending the recipe!

I won't be in the UK early enough to post them, maybe next year! I think that sounds like a brilliant idea.

I make homemade gingerbread men every year. It's a week long process and a tradition that I have yet to ever miss, not matter where I live! My in-laws and brits here cannot appreciate the hard work or the goodness, they are too sweet according to them. Well, stuff that! I love baking and will keep making cookies each Christmas.

I usually make around 5 varieties each year, but gingerbreads are the absolute minimum. They are frosted and decorated and I would love to share! They won't be baked until at least beginning of Dec, but please count me in!

Not sure if it was just bad luck, or if the posties here have very good noses, but I sent pies and cookies as my 'Secret Santa' gift last year and they never arrived.  So, I don't know, wrap them up really well...

I've been reading this thread everytime I log on and I'm toying with the idea of joining in. But I'm a bit scared. Everyone knows I just don't cook/bake or do anything else domestic. I'm sure I can follow a recipe though and thanks to Niku2 I got tons of cookie recipes so I'll think about it.   :-\\\\  I love the thought of receiving xmas cookies! The kids would love it!

I'm so glad people want to do this!! Sorry I haven't posted sooner - my laptop cord is acting up so I've not been on much.

What I'll do is leave this open until the end of November at which point I'll make a list of all who wanted to participate and assign names to you. I don't think I'll keep it secret unless you really want to. Right now I intend to assign 3 names per person. But the more people who join, the more names we could have - and more kinds of cookies!!!! :D

You'll also need to let people know if you (or a family member) have serious dislikes such as nuts or coconut!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
