Does anyone have any advice on going to Stoke-on-Trent for a day trip from London? One of my Thanksgiving guests wants to visit the pottery places. She is in a walking cast so can get around OK, but isn't too nimble as yet. We're driving from London and I'm wondering if there is a central place to park so she can get to most of the shops.
As always, any help or information is much appreciated.

Hi- parking won't be much of a problem in Stoke. There is a large Potteries Shopping Centre (mall) which is pretty much in the centre and has a large multi-story car park. http://www.potteries-shopping-centre.co.uk/
Hope that helps.

If she is wanting to visit the actual pottery places like Wedgwood, Moorcroft, Portmerion etc. you will need the car as they are spread out a bit. Hope you all enjoy the trip!  :)

Thanks for the info! Glad to know there's a car park. My cousin will have to choose which of the pottery places she wants to visit; I'm not sure we can get to all of them in a day.

Parking centrally is not a good idea, especially if she wants to get to a couple of the potteries.  They are spread out all over the city of Stoke-on-Trent, but are actually in 6 little suburbs (Longton, Burslem, Barlaston, - anyway you get the idea) and you will need to drive to each of them.  I would suggest starting at one of the big ones - perhaps Wedgwood and doing the factory tour - they have a shop with mostly firsts there.  But there are 2 other Wedgwood shops with 2nds or overstocks and the prices at those shops are very good, but they are miles apart.  Then there is Portmeirion and Burleigh and Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester,  Minton, Spode, Moorcraft and so much more.  I think there is over 30 porcelain factories and outlets in the city, but they are scattered all over the area.  There had been a bus that would run between factories but that may only run in the summer, but if you start purchasing some items, they could get a bit heavy carrying them around!  Have fun - it was one of my favorite Sunday afternoon haunts while we were living over there.  There is also a Sunday evening Pottery auction in the area - we could always find some great buys there (www.ashauctions.com)  Enjoy!!
