Has anyone done the Early release deal for quarantine??
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:05:50 PM »
I read on the DEFRA site that it is possible if your pet already has the blood test done but you don't have time to wait the full 6 months in the US.  They can be released early if you quarantine your pet in the UK after the 6 months has passed of course.  Just wondering if anyone has done it.

Having just brought my dogs over and seeing how hard it was for them to adjust to life in a new place with loads of new people, I would suggest having your pet do the whole six months in the US.  That is what I did and my dogs are just now adjusting and I moved a month ago.  If your pet is in quarantine, it could cause more problems.  I haven't heard of what you speak of, but, I would call DEFRA to enquire and get the full details before you make a decision.

Well it's on their website and just wanted to know if anyone did it before.  There's no way I can leave my dog here as I will be moving to join my wife and kid soon.  My parents doesn't seem too excited about the idea of me leaving my dog there.  God forbid my dog ruins their refinished hardwood floor.

Hi. I read the very same thing, every kennel in UK states the same thing. DEFRA though has no information about it. I called them, I called USDA, I called everybody possible. I still have to wait the 6 months.
I don't know what the truth is, but...and this is the worst part. I am relocating this month to Edinburgh, my Pepper has to wait till March and there is no room in any quarantine premises ot authorized kennels in Scotland or England within 100 miles from Ed.

So...I think she'll have to wait here with somebody till the waiting period elapses.

Hmm i found info on a scottish site that also mentioned early release.  There is a form that you can submit.  It's probably best for our pets to stay in the states.  I think I'm leaving her with my parents, even if they don't like it.

It is true!

Sasha (my dog) had her test done in Aug 20th/07. We relocated to England on Nov 26th/07, so 3 months have passed, and sadly she will have to stay in quaratine until Feb 19th/08.

I must agree with Dar... if  you can complete the 6 month period in the US, PLEASE DO SO!!! Your dog will be confined to a really small space, with no possibilities of walks, and most of the quarantine kennels have very short visit times.

Hope it helps!
