If you don't know what he likes best, how about a bunch of taster bottles?

Great idea!  :)

Mmm whiskey :)
My current favourites are Glenkinchie and Dalwhinnie. two good single malts, both are on offer at the dreaded tesco with about 6 quid off a bottle bringing them to around the £20 mark. If your fella is into blended whiskey Johnnie Walker is supposedly at the top of the tree with the gold or blue being up there but pricey.

I love single malt Whisky so here are three suggestions

One of my friends swears by Lagavulin but I have yet to try it.

I personal LOVE Macallan 18 year but I can't remember if it was the fine oak or the sherry oak that I fell in love with.  Either way I have enjoyed all of the Macallan's I have tried.

Another friend had me try Oban 14 and I thought that was rather good as well.

Good luck!

Call me crazy, but I quite like Glenfiddich. And also Laphroaig. Yessum. ;D
It was most definitely...a THING.

Two words Andee

          1. Malt

          2. Glenlivet
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Thanks everyone.  Glenlivet or Glenfiddich--I think one of those was what he liked.

I like the idea of a few smaller bottles--I hope the liquor store near me does that.

Actually, my all-time favourite is Johnnie Walker Blue. But at £150 a bottle, it's something I'd only treat myself to on very special occasions. It's like drinking liquid gold.

I've never been lucky enough to try it, but my husband had drinks with a veeeeery generous consultant a few years ago who treated everyone to a glass.  Now every time we go to our local liquor store, he has to stop and look longingly at the bottles behind the 'special' glass case.

I swear, it's like something out of Wayne's World. ;D

I'll second niku2--Jameson's is by far my favourite.  Beautiful honey-like aftertaste.  Glenmorangie is nice, too.

The 'offey'.

By the way...just to start an argument...Bushmills is WAAAAAY better than Jamesons.  So much smoother.  And I shall fight anyone who says different.

I know nothing about whisky but an old boyfriend of mine swore that Bunnahabhain is the best, it's certainly the best name for a whisky IMO
