I followed up the recommendations of several people on this thread and went to see Haworth last year.  It was fabulous!  Even my kids enjoyed it and we all listened to the audio book of Jane Eyre on the drive home.

I went to Lacock Village (and Lacock Abbey) in Wiltshire which is used as Cranford in the filming of that series, as well appearing in Pride and Prejudice.  That's a great place.

I also went to Lyme Park near the Peak District, which is the house in the the scene from Pride and Prejudice where Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) meets Lizzy right after he's been swimming in the lake:
