My fish is trying to commit Fishacide!
« on: December 13, 2007, 06:26:10 AM »
I dunno what's going on! The rules in my tank have switched and the one that was the boss first is now the one being forced to commit fishacide by the one it used to chase! It's being tortured and chased and made to hang upside down in the corner! WTF... It makes me sad! I need a bigger tank or one more angel to balance it out again? I dunno

Big Black is now the tortured...silver one is now the boss and is MAKING big black stay in the corner. Everytime Big Black comes out he's chased and attacked back to the corner!

Any fish people out there that have any ideas of what might be going on? Will this be like this forever? My tank is a 10 gallon tank (yes, I know it's too small for 3 Angels I plan on getting another one when I have money)

Ahhh I'm sad  :( He looks miserable

Hi Penguin.  My hubby is super into fish, too and he's right here....this is what he says:

The tank is definitely too small.  They are very territorial at breeding time and will pair off and the third fish will inevitably be in their territory and get constantly pushed out when the two want to pair off.

Take Big Black out or he'll get killed or die.  It's tropical so won't survive in just a bowl.  You can't do anything with Big Black, they won't take back a battered fish, but you could take back the two that are pairing off for 2 smaller fish like tetras.

The only other thing you could do is a big water change which may change the levels of pheremones in the water and hence break the breeding cycle.

If the tank was bigger it could have been divided up with plants for 2 separate territories but it's just too small.

Maybe someone you know has a bigger tank they could give you?

Good luck, I know it's distressing.  :(
