what do these people eat?

Frozen vegetables?
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Prepared food that only requires heating up.  ::)

They do eat salads (prepared packaged ones), too.

I would do the following:

to fill up a large roasting dish:
3 packs of fresh green beans
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1-1/2 cups grated cheese (red leicester is good, or cheddar)
french fried onions (if you have or can find them)
salt and pepper

boil the beans until softened, then mix in a bowl with the soup and cheese, salt and pepper.  put this mixture in the dish and cover with the french fried onions.  bake at 190C for 25 min, cover if it starts to brown too much.

a substitute for the crunchy topping could be corn flakes?? then mix in some sauteed onions with the rest for the onion-y flavor?

YUM! Comfort food at its best....

thankyou so much, I cant wait to try it, i have never had it before.

when I made my GBC at Thanksgiving I forgot to get the soup so I fried up some mushrooms and added double cream ... it was SO much nicer than using the soup .. you should try it! But I don't put cheese in mine, it might be a bit heavy of you're using cheese.

I've never had it with cheese before my friend made it that way, and it sooo good!! Gives it an extra zip!

How did everyone''s Xmas dinner turn out? Ours was yummy! That filo pastry thing I made was really tasty, although not terribly Xmassy, I think next year I'll do something more traditional but I'd definitely make that pie again for a dinner party.

Although I was not the cook, the meal I was invited to share was wonderful! I even got a share in the leftover Brussels Sprouts. Yum!  :D

Mine was great!  We're very traditional here. :)  And the turkey was cooked at my house because of a last minute oven disaster at the MIL's but that was fine and in fact seemed to take a lot of the pressure off.  Plus, the brussel sprouts were forgotten and had to be sent home in care packages to the people who actually like them and that didn't bother me at all! ;)

Mine turned out great.  All the veg and roll dough were made Xmas eve, which took a lot of pressure off on the day.  Just nuke and serve.

Was a touch disappointed with Nigella's Ginger Ham in that it said to boil 12lbs for 4.5 hours.  When I took it out of the boil, I did seem a tad overcooked and was falling apart.

Then, like a do-do bird, I put my new digital thermometer in the ham, cap and all (!) and proceed to lose the white cap inside of the meat.  Nothing left to do but pop the ham in the oven to finish off the glaze and hope the plastic bit didn't melt in the meat.  Thankfully it didn't.  ::)

I ended up cooking the whole damn meal (MIL did ask if I'd mind, which I didn't but I expected more help from the rest of the family - which never surfaced :P).

We had roast chicken, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, 4 boiled new potatoes for BIL who is a pain in the ars*, savoy cabbage with bacon, broccoli and carrots, peas, a green salad, and sprouts which MIL did. Apple crumble for dessert. Pretty boring IMO but it was what I had to work with. Can't wait to be in the US next year and have a more interesting meal.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
