Actually, I think Manchester's a pretty nice airport, come to think of it.  Having the train station right there is also very handy.

I'll second that! :)

Can't say that I have a favorite airport...  Atlanta is easy enough to find your way around, IMO.  I was surprised when I was in Tampa recently to find that TIA has won some 'best airport' kind of awards, but it's really quite nice now that I think of it.  It doesn't hurt that you can step outside & feel that subtropical air for most of the year, and I'm like - aaaaah! Home again! 8)

Manchester is nice.  I like the convenience of it having a bus station and train station right in the airport.  I also really liked Frankfurt when I just went through there.  We were stuck there for 5 hours, and it wasn't too bad an experience.

I absolutely hate NYC JFK.  I've only been through it a few times, always international, and I always end up running through it with no shoes on either with planes being held for me or almost being late.   I refuse to go through it any more.  I'd also refuse to go through O'Hare if I could.  I've had my worst customer service experience there.  I've had flights almost cancelled, it's just always a mess when I'm there.

I love Heathrow for the following reasons:

- Gatwick is old, dirty and very junky. Needs a good refurb.
- Luton has had the refurb but remains impossible to get away from after 10:30 (thanks to s**t trains) The buses are spotty and unreliable too.  >:(
- Stansted remains in the middle of nowhere.

I have been recommended to fly out of London City if you are going anywhere short-haul. It's hell of a lot less crowded and they cater for business execs as their primary flow of business so have to remain efficient.
Never flown from there but next time I take a short break, I will be using LCY!  :D

have they refurbished Heathrow? Last time I was there it was like I stepped back into 1976! Well with the exception of the shopping that is.

Manchester's not too bad at all! Good public transport links. Not too overwhelming.

Schiphol (Amsterdam) is pretty good for shopping, places to sit and wait, etc. Good public transport links. The transport police a very good there, too.

Vancouver International sucks now that after security, US flights sections is completely separated from the other international flights section and the international flights has nooooo services, but a glass wall separating you from the US flights section and all of the eateries and shops. Awful, awful, awful. Before security, it looks beautiful, but beware the other side. It wasn't always like that.

Heathrow has only been refurbed in terminal 4. They have been too busy building and concentrating on terminal 5 to care about 1,2,3. So yes, it remains a trip back into the mid 1970's  :P

Heathrow is the lesser of the evil four Stansted/Luton/Gatwick/Heathrow, but I hate it even so.   The absolute best is LCY.  Do not pass up the chance if you can fly out of there.  Plus it is so convenient for us East enders/City folk.

I like O'Hare because I have spent so much time in it, know it like the back of my hand, and feel 'at home' there.  I was there on September 11.

Favorite airport is hard to choose.  I'm thinking maybe Pittsburgh due to all the great shopping.  :)

I love Denver airport.  I think it's the easiest airport to move around in.  The inter terminal train is fab.

I prefer to fly out of Gatwick over Heathrow any day.  Getting in and out of Gatwick is much more convenient.  Same for Manchester.  An airport with a  train station accessible is a good thing in my book.

I loathe Calgary's airport but that is mostly due to the people who work there.  Pearson in Toronto is a nightmare and they keep making it worse.

chicago is just huge.  too huge

LAX is well...  LAX. ugh.

Vancouver is nice.  Has a harvey's and a timmy's.  What more can you ask for?

I haven't been inside *that* many airports (the list is getting longer, though!) but Ft. Lauderdale is a good one because it is very small (though you can't fly direct to the UK from it.).

Chicago, I must say is a wild and huge, but could be interesting if you are super early for your flight and not stressing / rushing to get anywhere.

Manchester is nice becuase it's smallish.  Liverpool nice because it is even smaller.

Shannon is great because it's small and I'm always very excited and happy when I arrive there! (Yaay, Ireland!  :))

Philadelphia is ok because it's been getting refurbished and I know it pretty well and the train is right there.

JFK--very overwhelming!

Munich airport is fabulous.....check in took about 2 min last time I was there, and no queues!

I happen to like Luton as far as London airports go (living north of the river), its always good for check in and security takes just a few moments.  However, yes getting there is a big pain in the ass.

O'Hare and I have a love-hate relationship..mostly hate though.  Although the bar in the Int'l terminal is really good for wasting time.

Slightly off-topic, but I LOVED Heathrow last time I flew back to the US. It was a bank holiday and we were through the line and all (4 of us) checked in about 15 minutes. How great was that? Also, there was no traffic getting there!

Are UK airports always so nice on Bank Holidays?

Ooo, forgot about Denver!!  The monorail is FABULOUSLY convenient and it's a clean, nicely done airport!  My sister lives in Denver, so I've been lucky enough to use it from time to time.

I seem to remember seeing a W H Smith in Las Vegas airport too... the only one I've ever seen in the US :).

I know everyone on here will strongly disagree with me but I love Chicago O'hare.

I have a 6-hour layover at O'Hare in 4 weeks' time... the last (and only) time I was there, I got stuck on the runway for 3 hours because we missed our take-off slot (I was flying to London, so ended up spending 12 hours on the plane), so I'm not looking forward to it that much!

I don't really have a favourite airport, although I do like the shops in Dallas Fort Worth :).

I'm pretty sure there's one at Logan (Boston) as well ... and I know I've seen them at other US airports, too!  :)
