Changes at Buckingham Place in the new year.
« on: December 29, 2007, 11:05:02 PM »
Servants to be referred to as associates.
Associates can call their superiors by their first name.
Casual clothes to replace uniforms.
Palace guards to be replace by security guards.
To comply with postal regulations Buckingham Palace will be dropped from the address and replaced with 147 Kensington Street, London
The staff dining room will be replaced with vending machines with healthy diet foods.
These changes will bring the palace up to modern times and make a more streamlined operation.

Some of the changes are good, but at the same time its yet another loss of British Culture.  Its supposed to be Buckingham Palace, not 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or 10 Downing Street...   :-\\\\

Where is this from?  No offense, but this sounds like someone's taking the mickey.  Buck House isn't really near a thoroughfare that comes close to the name Kensington.  Palace Guards are actually military (in fact, they are one of the branches you can serve in to meet the requirements to become a Beefeater), and a huge tourist attraction, so I don't see them being replaced by security guards.

Kensington Palace was the residence of Princess Diana.  Maybe the address thing is a play on that.  The rest sounds to be a comment on modernization.  I can't see palace staff referring to their superiors by their first name.  Would that mean they'd call the Queen "Betty"?  ;D

I think somebody's having a joke too.   Kensington Street?  Never heard of it.

I've never really thought about, but if the Palace is supposed to have an address in any specific road, then I would have thought it would be The Mall.

It's in SW1 so definitely not Kensington. I think someone's leg is definitely being pulled.  ;)

I've tried googling to find the source, but can't.

I confess that during some idle moment I came up with this. At least I was able to entertain myself. I thought all the ideas were hilarious when I imagined them.
I wanted to look up the address where the Palace is located and I knew it was at the top of the Mall but I wanted to use the side streets but I would have to look at the map. (too much trouble)
I would classify myself as a royalist but I contradict that by saying even though the Queen wants to change with the times she still want to keep the common people "in their place".
I have lived in the US too long and I can't visualize myself bowing down to the Queen. I would be courteous to her but someone said they put their pants on the same as me, one leg at a time. In the US people can treat CEO's somewhat the same way. Not me. :)
