I just got a griffin Itrip for my new Nano and I was pleasantly surprised about how good it was.

Some modern car radios have auxiliary inputs on the back, generally by RCA jacks.  They're intended for connecting trunk-mounted CD changers and such like, but they're a regular line-level input which could be used.   Just run the cables into the glove compartment or some other convenient place where they'll be out of the way but accessible when needed.
