I'm petrified of getting this one...especially since I am an Emetophobic (fear of vomiting)

Didn't know it had a name!  Does it just mean fear of vomiting yourself?  Or can it mean fear of having your children vomit and having to hold their hair back and/or clean up the mess?

We haven't had a tummy bug in a very long time...probably haven't got immunities anymore...shiver.  When the kids go back to school I hope they don't bring home some nightmare illness.

Must think healthy thoughts.  Must wash hands.

Thanks for the link.  Emetephobia sounds much more serious than anything I've ever felt.  Sorry I really didn't know, and didn't mean to trivialize your suffering HauntedMansion.   :(

No apologies necessary. I didn't think anyone was trivialising anything :)

I've never heard of this before but after looking at the link Im sure I used to suffer from this condition.
A few years ago I could have ticked nearly all those boxes!
I've always been a 'puker' and still have a very bad gag reflex. I hate it and when I do get sick I cry and carry on like a baby screaming for my husband when my head is in the toilet. This is probably one of the reasons I don't drink.  Pregnancy was very difficult for me as I am sick for at least 6 months. During that time I tried not to leave the house at all for fear of getting sick in public. When I would have to drive to pick the kids up I would always keep a 'puke bag' in the car just in case. It's really horrible!

Thats an interesting one, as many peoples fears make them feel sick! That really would be a bad symptom to have in your case!

Yes, my best friend in the US (used to be my boyfriend) suffers from emetophobia quite severely.  He has all sorts of related OCD habits & routines he does all for the purpose of never getting puking-sick.  And when all that fails, he also has a stash of anti-emetic drugs on hand as well...

The best tip I have for everyone & it's no absolute guarantee by far against getting this bug (or any bug really), but - wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.  And avoid touching your mouth & nose (to the extent possible) with your hands.

I'm the same. Immodium as well as Bonine and sea bands are in my bag at all times. I keep hand sanitser too. It's pretty serious I know but I don't want therapy. I don't want to ever be able to think it's good to get sick or hear or watch others. No way. Not happening.

As for washing hands, yes. I don't do it consistently to where OCD and my skin getting raw happen but if I'm conscious about it and someone around is ill, that's me

I'm not an emetophobe, but Aillidh is naturally underweight and now, having just come off this ear and throat infection, she really needs to pick up some weight.

She ate so little whilst she was ill, she scared the hell out of us and we took her to an out-of-hours appointment on Saturday to make sure she was okay.

She's been eating lots since Sunday, but I'm going to ring the nursery on Monday to see if they are having problems with this and check w/the HV before sending her back.

Normallly we just let them get on with it, but she really, really doesn't need to lose any weight.

Yes, he used to always have the cherry syrup (I forget what it's called) with him, that they give to children to settle their stomach.  And he usually manages to get an onhand supply of prescription anti-emetics from his doctor by smooth talking his way for them.

He likes to use his own special set of silverware & dishes, whenever possible.  He's hypervigilant - watching over one's shoulder in the kitchen the entire time to be sure proper food handling sanitation techniques are used, dishes are washed properly & rinsed in the hottest water, throws food out without any hesitation if there's any question whatsoever about its freshness, avoids leftovers completely...  In public, he's constantly wary/anxious -- will use napkins when handling public salt/pepper shakers or ketchup bottles, etc...tissues for doorknobs & taps in public conveniences...constantly covering his nose & mouth...usually prefers to eat out at the same places that he's famliar with...  Hates being around children and/or babies...

I know quite a lot about emetophobia.  Back in the day, I spent many late nights sitting up with him during times when he feared he was going to be sick.  And I kept him out of the hospital before (just) by getting him to eat after a long period of not eating (for fear of being sick) that led him to be physically in an anorexic state. :-\\\\

Bumping this up, it's set to get worse with everyone back at work/school tomorrow.

Take care folks!

Josh has been sick all morning.  This is the second time he has had this virus. (If this is what it is)  I'm so scared I will get it again now too! :(

Hugs Stacey, that's the last thing you need right now.

I'm back at work and armed with hand cleanser. Praying it works!

It's amazing how hard it is to keep your hands clean and NOT touch your nose and mouth. I'm sure I don't touch my face that much normally, but today I caught myself so many times!
