A few questions for those in the Inverness Area???
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:18:22 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good place to get a used car, without screwing me too much and without any UK credit history?

In the meanwhile, can you help me sort out the bus system here, its a bit confusing!  It seems that all the buses go in opposite directions of where I need them to, or I need to transfer on three different buses!.  Are there any good route maps that show everything?  I have yet to find one, and thats with someone born/raised here helping me out!

Thanks!

Ha, I know what you mean about the buses. Have you been to the main bus depot in town, there's an enquiries place there that might be able to help you. I only really know about the ones that go to and from Culloden.

Can't help you on the car but I reckon Kathleen would know, you could send her a PM in case she doesn't see your post.

Thanks BritWife!  I'm going to head down to the bus depot to see if I can get any information.  I may end up actually living in Culloden, so I may need your help on the buses from there ;)

Hi,

I bought my second hand car from an ad I found it the Scot Ads.  There are tons of dealerships in the Longman Industrial Estate, but I don't know what they are like.  Arnold Clark is one of the biggest dealers, and I would imagine (though I could be wrong) that they would be a good starting point just to get an idea of what is on offer.

As far as the buses go, you can pick up maps just inside the hospital, or at the bus station.  Here is a link to the timetables http://www.stagecoachbus.com/inverness/timetables.php and some route information.

How are you settling in? How's the house hunting going?

Let me know if I can help.

Arnold Clark are huge and well-known all over Scotland.  They're probably a decent bet.

Ha-ha
That did happen to me the first time I was up here (but I didn't know what direction I was going in the first place!)

Thanks, I'll check them out.  And thanks for the bus info.  I went to the bus station today too and picked up some more information ,so hopefully I can pull it all together.
The house hunting is slow, but that's okay.  Everything is either perfect, but no good public transport access, or has great public transport access, but is dingy and smelling like smoke. But, at least it narrows things down, so that when the perfect one comes by, I will know it right away!

What areas are you looking in?

Lets see I've been looking around city center, the Crown area, Cradelhall, some other areas near the Raigemore hospital, and Culloden.

No worries yet, we figure that on Tuesday after the paper comes out there may be a bit more to see!

Those are all good areas to look.  You'll probably have better luck now the holidays are over.  Let me know if you're in the Culloden area again. Balloch (just past Culloden) is nice too.
