DH and I enjoy walking although we don't belong to any rambling groups.  We are in Dorset and there are lovely walks along the South Coast and also the New Forest.

But my favourite walk was back in the 80's when we lived in Lancs.  We went up to
Ingleton Falls 3 times and did that walk.  Once we went into a cave that was across some farmland at the end of our walk.  It was a great day out.

I'd like to do more regular walking but somehow we just do it sporadically.  We should probably join a group and we'd get more in the routine.

Not sure how far you are able to walk at one stretch, mapleleafgirl72 -- but there are some relatively easy (flat) walks we've done here not too far from us, in the Golden Acre Park area & one had a really nice pub along the way as I recall.  I'll ask Steve about them, cos I'd be up for doing them again!  He'll remember I'm sure because he moaned about the walk at the time - oh this is more like flat old Norfolk, not a proper (rugged up & down) Yorkshire walk... :P

We've done Golden Acre before, but where's the pub?  ???

Flat works for my delicate feet and lazy disposition.

I have an easy walking directory for the Harrogate area. Maybe it sounds like a sans hubby thing, if you're interested sometime!

I'll have to ask Steve - it's in the country around there (I think!), somewhere.

We may have to take a look - after Canada, of course. ;)

Sounds good - I'm available on Mondays & Fridays now!  Although I'm not sure but what we might need a car and driver to get to Golden Acre? ???  Harrogate would be easy enough though!

I need to get on those driving lessons too! :P

Oh, that sounds like fun.  Too bad I don't live near there.  I'm jealous!

Mike and I and two friends all went for a great walk on Sunday.  Haverah park.  We'd have to drive there, but it is mostly flat and very scenic!  There were loads of things to look at like:  sheep (I love them!), castle ruins, 16th c. manor, 5th century fort, and weird abandoned research stations that look like windowless surreal shacks where physicists (sp?) had been researching something about extreme cosmic rays !  I'm  not sure what pub is in the area, I could research that.  It's also not far from Harrogate.

It's in our 50 Walks in West Yorkshire book - this walk!  And the pub is just in the countryside around Golden Acre Park.  It's a five mile walk - can you do five miles?  Steve said there is a bus we could get to Golden Acre - I think it's the X84. :)

Ooh, that sounds good! Flat, yes, I can do five miles. Especially if there is a pub at the end!  ;D

ETA: I think I might have the same book - I'll look when I'm back.

The pub is in the middle, so you're on your beer motorcycle for the second half of it! ;D

I went for a really nice long walk with my son in the Painswick valley today.  It was so cold for the first few minutes we thought we'd regret it, but climbing the steep hills soon warmed us up.  We took it slow, stopping to pet kitties, point out snowdrops and swans, etc.  Painswick is a lovely village.

mapleleafgirl72 is back in town!  We'll have to get the Leeds UKY ramblers organised soon! :)

In other news, we're all booked for our long walk this summer - the Cumbrian Way:

Ulverston > (7 miles) Lowick > (8 miles) Coniston > (11 miles) Great Langdale > (9 miles) Stonethwaite > (7 miles) Keswick > (6 miles) Bassenthwaite > (8 miles) Caldbeck > (14 miles) Carlisle

Some easier days - time for naps along the way!  But oh boy -- that last day's a killer! :o

Now I've got to get us a little bit of gear - waterproof packs this year!  Possibly gaiters.  And we need to get out there walking & get our distances up again...
