You can always make a visit to the Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent and find some good buys around there. The Wedgwood factory always has factory 2nds and the flaws are minute. We were able to get 12 dinner plates, dessert plates, soup bowls and serving platter for less than 100 quid. Granted, it was being discontinued so when it was gone, there was no more! There are so many other factories there and they all have a "markdown" area for bargains if you don't want to buy anything expensive.
Another place is going to the Auction houses around England. We frequented 2 different ones - Ash Auction in Stoke and Biddle and Webb in Birmingham. They were always auctioning off nice sets of dishes for very reasonable prices.
