Jersey & Guernsey
« on: January 07, 2008, 02:07:10 PM »
DH & I have just started planning a holiday to the Channel Isles, probably to Jersey at the end of March. Has anyone been? I've done some preliminary research on both Jersey's and Guernsey's tourist sites, but it's always nice to have a few recommendations from people who have been. Any good ideas on places to stay/things to do? I love coastal walks, and both DH and I love to cycle (although I'm not a "sporty" cyclist, just like to do it leisurely for fun), so I'm thinking there will be lots of great scenery to explore.

I've only ever been to Jersey twice -- Once when I was about 3 and once about 16 years ago.  There are some nice spots on the island though -- Plenty of lanes to wander around and coastal paths to explore.   If you're interested in recent history there's a fascinating Museum of The Occupation in St. Helier (at least it was there in 1991), looking at how life continued on the island during the Nazi occupation in WWII.

Thanks for your advice, Paul. I'm definitely looking forward to an "escape to the country." Anyone else have suggestions for Jersey or for Guernsey (we haven't totally decided which island to visit yet)?

I work for radio stations in both Islands and I can say it absolutly gourgeous, I can email some of my contacts and ask for some recommendations as to wait to do and see.  I know that they do an amazing fudge (which is more like caramel to me)

I'm afraid my memories of Guernsey are extremely hazy and mostly based upon old family photos from 1969!    I didn't get the chance to stop off again during the Jersey trip, just sat in the harbor at St. Peter Port for an hour or so.   Don't forget there are other smaller islands as well to really get away from it all -- Sark for example.
