hey and "hiya"
« on: April 12, 2004, 05:59:34 AM »
new to the forum.

i'm K. from NC, USA,and my boyfriend C. is from Kent.  We have been doing the LDR thing since October 03.  I visited him in late Dec/ early Jan, and he stayed for two weeks in March.  Things have progressed so fast for us...it's so ironic that I find someone so perfect for me who lives so far away.  But anyway....I'm trying to get a work visa, since there's, according to C, a nursing shortage in the UK.  I would ideally like to be out there by the end of theyear.  We're not going to rush into themarriage thing just to be together...we'veboth been down the M word road before,  :-X

Anyway, I'm so glad I found this forum...lots of good info to prep me for my move.

I've been laughing so hard at some of this stuff, especially the gripes about UK things. (He was so sweet to buy me all of my grooming electrics for UK outlets, even if I had to do my hair in the mirror downstairs...lol)

here's another observation I made...is this odd?  i noticed that it seems more attention is given to makingthe packaging of products more attractive.  here in the us, it seems like things are just slapped together, mass produced, bada bing, bada boom, there ya go.
i oohed and aahed at sainsburys about how cute the candy.chocolatebars were wrapped, etc.  bright cellophane type wrappers and stuff. i dunno, just an observation.

anyway, glad i found this forum, say hi if you'd like, and i'll be updating all on my journey to the garden of england :D

Hiya, K!

Welcome to the fold.  We are a lively bunch.  I think LisaE said we are bonkers.  I can just imagine everyone flying around their rooms bonking into walls and ceilings--or is that another one of *those* words?  In my world bonk meant to hit.  Never can tell here, though. :D

I'm moving over to be with family.  One of the few here not emigrating for love, unless you want to count neices and nephews who I adore to distraction.

I dry my hair sitting on the stairs in the hall.  Maybe I'll ask my BIL to hang a mirror about 3 feet high. :P
When I find a funnier sig than twistedncynical's, it will be here.

I dont even bother drying my hair anymore... i just let it go natural.  But it sounds more comfortable/easier to be sat down on the hall stairs drying it, than perched in front of a steamy mirror in a bathroom, when others are probably wanting to get in there!   :)

Welcome to the boards, K... cant say i've observed anything different about the packaging here, but i've been here 18 years, so alot of things that might seem different or strange to a newcomer are just 'normal' to me!

All the best!

Welcome, there's a couple people looking for nursing work I believe so check some of the other new posts in this forum.

As far as candy packaging, I'm not sure. If you were seeing Easter stuff it might be true as things here tend to be packaged individually whereas in the States it's often intended for 'group presentation (!)' in a basket. I think there's a larger selection of candy bars and things in general here, too, but that's just my opinion!

Look forward to seeing more of you!  :)

thanks for the welcome, all:)
i think most of the differences was the candy.  i dunno,i notice little things like that. oh, and the washing machine detergent was in little tabs, like dishwashing detergent.  (or as they say in the south, "warshin powders" hehe)  and C has this nice, brand new washing machine, but no dryer...oh honey, has that got to change :P i am not a line dry kinda gal ;) well, maybe a blanket in the summertime,he has been such a bachelor, poor thing, spreading out his clothes on the freakin heating unit things(again, i'm used to central heat and air).  i'm so worried he's going to torch his house.

but anyway, everyone have a great day!

Hiya.  I just had my morning chuckle over the hanging the clothes ont he radiators as I have done that more times than I can think.  Dries them quicky though. I have to admit that I too will be buying a dryer since we have the room for one.

I wish you the best of luck finding a nursing job and welcome to UKY!

Hate to break it to you but that drying things on radiators thing isn't a bachelor habit.  Most everyone does that here!  :)

Welcome to UKY.  I can tell you're gonna fit right in!  Hope to see you around more often.   ;D
