it's great :) But it would have benefitted me a LOT more if this was changed over the holiday period. ::)

I like the restriction. We flew to the US a few weeks ago and we actually had room to move on the plane.

But it's also subject to individual airlines, which will cause confusion.

What this really means is that it puts it in line with the US regulations that allow you one piece of hand luggage and a personal item like a laptop.

For the simple sake of being able to have two small pieces through security is happiness for me.

But it's also subject to individual airlines, which will cause confusion.

most definitely, but this should be taken up with the airline and not necessarily the airport security people as you go through x-ray. That is where the problems will arise if this staff start monitoring passengers' luggage and airlines.

Virgin allows 6kgs only and easyJet as much as you can manage without assistance within the baggage restriction. Differences are vast!

Also, it doesn't apply to Gatwick airport, although it does to Heathrow and Stansted.

ALSO as my Airport Duty Officer husband has just informed me..make sure the airport you are departing into and out of lets you have the 2 pieces of hand luggage. You might be allowed out of a airport that allows it but into one that doesn't let you travel onward with 2.... ::)

This is actually slightly annoying for me. I'm flying to the US next week and went to the trouble of buying a new laptop bag so I could fit my laptop and carry on items into just the one bag. Now it turns out I didn't need to buy the new one after all!!

you never know... things can always go back the way they were!

I like my sleeve that I can just tuck in to my carry on, but darn it I want to have my handbag handy too!!  ;)

I've gotten used to the hand baggage restriction and don't mind it so much, as I like that there is more room at the feet and you don't have to worry about everyone's stuff fitting in the containers. I didn't like having to make sure that my pocketbook fit into my hand baggage in the UK, but it could count as an extra personal item in the US.

I don't like Virgin's weight restriction. I got caught with that on my April trip.

not to kick a gift horse in the mouth- but... i think this will add more confusion.  every airline has different policies & different airports have different policies.  so- i'll be forced to check online to see what that particular policy is the day before i travel.  annoying.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

Every single thing about travelling by air is annoying.  This is just icing on the cake.  I am so tired of it.  :P >:(

Yes as of 7th January the UK airports (some not all) were granted by the DfT the lifting of their hand luggage restrictions. If you flew from one 'granted' UK airport to another UK airport you can take two carry-on. On the return you could be restricted to only one carry-on. But where ever you fly from, on which ever airline, to which destination still check for the individual restrictions. Even if the airport is a 'two bag' the airline may not be.
