I spent £250 going back up to Aberdeen from England to take a test only to find out I need to take my paper licence with me) What a numpty! Am I the only one on these forums to do that?

I did that the first time I went to take my theory test and was turned away.  I was so frustrated!!

If you are really paying triple what you paid in the States, I would contact an insurance broker to get a better deal. I cannot speak highly enough of mine and have recommended him to a few people as he now has a lot of knowledge about insuring Americans after dealing with me :) PM me if you want his info.   I am surprisingly paying less than what I paid in the states on a nicer car than I had previously since the broker found me a company that allowed me to use my 10-years no claim bonus eventhough the 10 years were in America.

Oh my gosh... I hadn't seen all the good news here, I haven't been online much lately... Congratulations, Mirrajay, bookgrl and politicfool! That's fantastic! It's such a relief to get it over with.

When is your theory test, Jenn? Good luck!!!

I passed this morning!  First time; five minors.  He said one might have been a major.  I passed close, but there were cars parked on both side, no place to stop and bad views, so he decided it was a minor.

PHEW!

Congratulations Bookgrl!!  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I passed yesterday - took the test for the 2nd time. I was scared during the test because the first time, the examiner was quite chatty, but the second time (different test centre) the examiner was all business. I got 6 minors but who cares, it's the result that counts.

Now just waiting for the new pink licence - how long does this typically take? Excited!

Since there have been so many recent passes on this thread I thought I'd add mine. Passed today 1st time (well not actually first time... I spent £250 going back up to Aberdeen from England to take a test only to find out I need to take my paper licence with me) What a numpty! Am I the only one on these forums to do that? Paper licences don't make sense to me when you have the photocard. Oh well, it's out of the way now.... all I have to deal with is paying triple for insurance over what I paid with my US licence :(  Congratulations to all the other recent passes!!!

Congrats Politicfool & Alpha   !!  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I got mine yesterday.  I took the test on the 11th, so five business days.

Any ideas as to why having a B&W photo is a "safety measure?"

I have no idea bookgrl, but my photo is the worst ever!  At least I dont have to show it everytime I order a drink like I had to in the US.

Good luck Jenn.  Have you had your driving instructor friend work on the nuances with you?

Yep - going on Sunday for more pick me apart testing and she is going with me to take the test so I have "an instructor" with me - looks like I took lessons and not the dumb American. ;-)

I rocked the test! 3 minors woohoo
1. reverse into side street car coming needed indicator to let them know what I was doing
2. observation look around more when reverse into side road
3. observing junction

Don't care a pass is a pass!
