I passed today!! So delighted. First time and only three minors. Did take seven lessons though - all very worth it. Was convinced I was going to fail after realised that I didn't know a single British person who had passed first time. (That said, I have had lots of practice.)

I can't believe I just passed my practical test, first time, 14 minors! Between the torrential downpour, traffic from hell (was stuck in stop and go traffic for 40 min during test), my nerves, the test administrator's broken English, and the near-collision of two cars next to me (nothing to do with me) - it was a miracle! I am actually a better driver than 14 minors would have you believe, my instructor also said he was told while we were out that my tester was the hardest and most strict marker. Now I need a cocktail.

My story, in case it helps anyone: been driving in US for 19 years (but not at all the last 1.5), only on automatic. took 14 lessons, but had no practice outside of lessons. Pretty much assumed I failed from the first moment as I stalled on my way out of the driving centre! But kept going with deep breaths and it all turned out fine. Also I just put the windows down when they were foggy and I couldn't see. We got cold and wet, but I figured it was the safest bet.

Congratulations suedehead!  :)  It sounds like your test was quite an ordeal, so well done!

I passed my practical today with 5 minors - 2 were for speeding.  :o I never, ever speed - honest! I was going 5 miles over the speed limit in 2 separate locations along my test route. Guess I just wasn't paying attention.

This was my second attempt (first one was in June). My test centre was Ashford (Middlesex). I was so nervous that my right foot was actually shaking the whole time. Very out-of-character for me.  ???

I am 57-years old and have been a driver for 40+ years. I took about 20 lessons with AA and did no driving outside my lessons. For reasons I am not quite sure that I even understand, this was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life.  :-\\\\

I'm so glad it's over!  ;D Now, I'm ready to get out there are drive - and I'm not nervous about that at all. Go figure.

Hooray TeaLoverDenise!  I remember when you took the test last time, and I'm so glad you had better luck this time.  I, too, have wondered why taking the driving test was such a nervewracking experience for me given that I'd been driving for so many years.  Hopefully reading this thread about all the driving successes will inspire others who are feeling equally daunted by the task.  :)

Congratulations!  I was much the same and shook through the whole thing despite 20 years experience of driving.  I was petrified and struggled.  I know what a relief it is to pass when you feel that way.  Well done!
