Just passed my theory test today! Now on to my practical exam. I have been driving a manual transmission in the States for 10 years. Any suggestions on how many practical hours I should need before taking the test?

I was in a similar situation in that I'd been driving standard transmission cars for years in the US.  The main thing for me was learning the techniques the way they teach them here in the UK, so I could do them the way they wanted to see them done on the test.

That took 3 or 4 lessons (I think they were 2 hours each), and I passed on the first try.

Good luck!

Just passed my practical today! I was super nervous, but managed to get through it! :)

If anyone needs an instructor in the Norwich/Gt Yarmouth/Lowestoft I really reccomend mine, he has a bit of a wait list though.

I have been driving for over 43 years in the  US and  and had my own Harley , have been taking a few driving lessons over here  I am having trouble with the theory  learning the signs and such that is the only thing that is stopping me from taking the tests

That's great! What a relief! But do I understand correctly that you must pass the driving test with a manual? Automatics are not allowed?

If you pass the test with an automatic you'll only be able to drive automatics, but if you pass in a manual you'll be able to drive both.

I passed my theory test today with a fantastic 49/50 on the multiple choice!!!!!!!!   ;D

The Hazard Perception bit wasn't quite as much of a success.... I did pass..... but just barely.  :P  46/75   ::)  I overclicked on one clip so I didn't get any point for that one.   :-\\\\  Luckily it wasn't the double hazard clip!!!  :)

Anyway, I passed!  Now on to lessons!!!!   ;D

Good for you. I found the hazard perception test especially nerve-wracking, speaking as an experienced driver who doesn't especially like video games…
