Yes, UK Oat Cheerios are the same as US regular Cheerios. My 2 year old is a big Cheerio eater.

Good to know! I like the ones from the yellow box!

I know I'm joining the conversation a bit late but although I'm British and like Rice Crispie Treats I don't like the ones that are just melted chocolate.  Since I was little we've always made them with Golden Syrup and Cocoa Powder - they're chewy and chocolatey.  I don't know if they'd be like ones made with marshmallows but they're very, very nice! :)

Same here! Love them that way!! ;D

Now I'm making a mental note to buy the ingredients next time I go to the shop.

I think the UK Cheerios are decidedly sweeter than US ones. Which is surprising!! :D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

The oat ones compared to the multi-grain? I do find the multi-grain to be much sweeter than the oat kind. I found that strange too, especially since DB prefers it but thinks the bread in the US is too sweet.

Yes they are sweeter. I got all excited when the UK "Oat" Cheerios came out, as I never liked the other ones much.  Then when I tried them I found they had that sweet coating (kind of like "honey nut" ones).  The UK Multi-grain also have the coating.  The US "regular" yellow box Cheerios have no coating.  They're not as sweet and the texture is slightly different to UK Oat Cheerios.

Marshmallow Fluff - I can find it in my local waitrose in the kosher section, but I doubt that is the norm across the country.  Funny enough - I bought a jar yesterday.  I only ever eat it by the spoonful!

Rice Krispy treats - I have seen the marshmallow ones around at English School fetes and such, but I think the chocolatey ones are more common. The marshmallows are definitely different here and there is the pink marshmallows, which I feel would taint the RK Treats.  I tend to either bring bags back or if really desperate, buy the american ones at the likes of Selfridges or other small stores in London, which cater to Americans.

To the original poster looking for ideas.  If your husband doesn't have far to travel, or it is easy for him...my office mates LOVE american style cupcakes.  I mean - LOVE.  I can bring in 3 dozen and they are gone by lunch time.  I only work with about 30 people, so some people are having two!

I made toffee cookies this weekend, that my english friends loved.  Basic chocolate chip cookie recipe, but substituted the choc chips for crushed up toffee (i.e Heath bars, Daim Bars or Skor bars).

I know one serving of U.S. cheerios have one gram of sugar.  I tried to find the information for the UK version, but couild only find the multigrain online.

Mom's love Cheerios low low sugar, but kids make Cheerios number 1!

Ah, childhood ads stuck in my head.  No doubt the reason I can't remember my German vocabulary.

Just a heads up - when cooking for others using marshmallows, check that they are suitable for veggies, as most in the UK contain gelatine, and we can't eat them :(

Most marshmallows in general are not veg.   :-\\\\

Nope, I wouldn't eat them even if they weren't made of gelatin. Bleuch.

No, I didn't even like them that much as a kid. Just the occasional carefully-toasted-over-a-fire marshmallow. And, yes, the occasional rice krispy treat. Now a quick look at the ingredients puts me off: gelatin and corn syrup, ick.
