Vanilla Wafers
« on: April 14, 2004, 02:53:50 AM »
All this talk of banana pudding and I just had to make one.  Then it suddenly struck me. . . do they have Vanilla Wafers ala Nabisco's Nilla Wafers in the UK?  Anything even remotely similar?

I've never seen them!  http://www.topsecretrecipes.com used to have a recipe for them on their website.  You might try there!
I'm sorry.  I'm just not cool.

I did have a vague look around for Nilla Wafers, or something close, and came up empty. Making them might be the only option. (Lady Fingers came the closest, but...naaaaaah.)

I haven't looked lately, however.

Alas, no, I've never seen them here. Sniff. Or proper graham crackers. I make a key lime pie in the summer that needs a graham cracker crust. Folks here would use digestive biscuits but I don't like them nearly as much. Every now and then Mom sends some in a care package!  ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I'm sure some of the online goody shops will have them...for a price, as always!  :)

Oh no!!  Well, I could very well be wrong on the exact location, but will post again after I talk to my friend.

At least you'll know how to get there, if it is...?  :-/

Hey as long as I can get them somewhere. I don't make banana pudding enough to die without them, but I was just thinking.  We have always made the Nilla Wafer recipe from Nabisco/Kraft.

Ooo wait!  Yes, Denalyia I think there's a place in Golders Green that sells them.  Peedal, had we not gotten totally um...misplaced...in the Heath, I'm sure we could have found them.  :)

I'll have a look next time I'm at the Country Market in Golders Green and will report back.  :)
