I'm curious to hear what Ms Normal thinks. Shouldn't she be popping in about now?
You rang?
Okay, here's my take on it: They ALL chose poorly. Much like Andrew Lloyd Webber week, I really didn't see the contestants have much of a connection with the songs. Neil Diamond is an
amazing songwriter, and when choosing to sing one of his songs a person should actually connect with it (I'm talking to you, Mr. Archipelago). While I think that several of the performances were good, there was nothing behind them. No emotion. Nothing. Hell, I can't even remember what David Cook sang. And that's saying something!
In no particular order:
Brooke completely lost any support from me with her psycho prom queen version of "I'm A Believer". It was terrifying to watch. As for "I Am I Said", well, I've watched it on YouTube a few times since all the bloggers were drooling about it. I don't think she 'got' the song at all. It's not a redemptive song. It's a song of desperation. It's also one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs, so I'm a bit touchy about it.
Jason seems nice. He has pretty eyes.
Syesha sang really well. But she chose SO poorly. "Hello Again" is an awful song. She may as well have sung "Turn On Your Heart Light"! The second song (the title escapes me) was happy and bouncy, but utterly forgettable.
David Archiecomics tried to pull a KLC, and it makes me hate him a little for it. Pulling a desperation move when you're the frontrunner is tacky. Go home, little David.
David Cook did a great job with his two songs, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Unlike several of his other performances, I'm not running to iTunes or YouTube to listen/watch again.
