I couldn't agree more. I'm almost relieved when auditions are over. For ever couple that are sincerely funny and focus on people who really honestly should know better there seems to be one who needs to be protected. I think it's amazing that social workers, carers, family members, etc. don't stop these people - how can it possibly be OK to let them go through with it?!

On another topic - why does it have to be on at 10?? I'm an 8 hours sleep a night sortta girl and since I watched it last night by the time I got to bed it was nearly 11:30. I'm feeling it this morning! I can't wait to get Sky+!!!

If you watch some tv to alot of tv you will love your Sky+ box when you get it you will wander how you got along without it lol. Dh & I both have one apiece we got them when they were on sale £49 each without any extra charges I think that is because we had Sky multi room.

OK, I love American Idol, but I do have mixed feelings about the auditions. I've always said that one week of auditions, then a good four weeks of bootcamp would suit me better, and I can see that I'll feel the same way this year.

Does anyone else think that sometimes the audition phase is unnecessarily cruel? I don't mean Simon, but rather the actual process of televising (for public ridicule) people who obviously have learning disabilities, behavioural health issues and sometimes addiction. Yes, there are plenty of cocky talentless kids, and it's fun to make fun of them. They deserve it. But for every arrogant fool, there's some poor 23-year-old veterinary student living in a bed-sit with her mother, two cats and a dog, who could actually benefit from psychotropic medication.

I'll still watch, but it does make me sad sometimes.

I agree with you completely. I think they would get just as many viewers without the cruelty factor.  :-\\\\

I'm right there with you!  I hate it!  Do people really get enjoyment out of making fun of some of these poor people.  Anne, you are right!  How could people close to them allow it and encourage them?

I've been FF most of the show because of this.  You will love Sky+ for just that reason!

We don't even really start to watch it till they go to Hollywood.  I wonder if anyone really enjoys that part? Although we saw the part with Temptress and that made us all cry.  Well, me.  But it was sad.  Poor Temptress.

Is it just me, or does Simon seem even more lecherous than usual? (If that's even possible!)  I was half-expecting him to start drooling a few times. :P

Yeah, me too. I can't STAND listening to all the terrible singers. Although having said that I did watch some of them and there were some contestants who made me laugh, because they thought they were so good and they were awful! Anyway...I can't wait until the weed out all these people and end up with the good ones.  :)

It's on tonight for us UK folk. I can't really recall who all made it yet but I've just realized I missed it last week so that might be why!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I usually pick the person I will root for during the auditions.  This is the first year my pick has not made into the top 24.  Usually the person makes it to the top 12.  The contestants look really interesting this year.  I think they went out of their way to prevent another Sanjaya (sp?) from making it into the competition.

I know, I just wanted to bump the thread so people would remember to watch! ;)

It's a little different this year (Hollywood week), and I can't decide if I like it better or not.

I need no reminders!! Sadly, I am never out!! Last week was so unusual, hence why I couldn't figure out why I wasn't sure what was going on!! Duh!! ;D

Looking forward to it... DH is working as usual so it'll be an exciting Valentines on the sofa for me!

Can we talk about this yet?  Everyone watch it?

I wasn't a fan of car-boy but was weirdly upset that he didn't make it.  I also like both boys at the end and thought someone else should've been cut.  That was my only real opinion though.

I think this years batch are all pretty good!  The only thing I was wondering about was.. who gave out blue drinks/candy to so many people?  A lot of the singers had blue tongues.
