Yay.  I am going to get the book in the next week.  Maybe if we cross posted in Meetups, we might get more people.

Good idea Moggs, you want to go ahead and do that?  If you haven't already! :)

Mort, we would love to have you join us.  The more the merrier!

Jeanne, your book suggestions sounds good.  Please bring it up at the meeting when we decide as a group what the next book will be.  The only reason Moggs and I picked a book is that we believed if we began the club with a clearly defined book and start date, that we would get a better turn-out than a vague suggestion to start a club.  And YEAH! it seems to have worked.  I am so thrilled by response.

I got the book about 10 days ago and am about half way through.  I am really looking forward to our discussion.  Where does everyone who is coming to the club live?  We can start thinking about a nice central location to meet.

Count me in!!  I live a short bus ride away from Victoria or various other central London locals, so this is perfect.  I really miss being able to discuss a book after I read it (from my uni days).  My fiancé & I went to the meet-up in September, but otherwise I haven't really socialised much with the UK-Y crowd :).

Will try and get ahold of the book shortly.  I think Moggs lives near Victoria too (if I remember from the Christmas card exchange), so some place in that area?  Or maybe more central?  I'm totally flexible...if anyone's got good cafe/pub suggestions, please do tell.

Yes, I do.  I am open to anywhere that's near public transport (buses preferred) though.

Getting to Victoria is no issue for me. Pretty much anywhere in Central London is not much of an issue for me.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Yeah, the bus thing is only a problem (at least for us) if it's more than a mile or two from where we are.

Any ideas on where it'll be?

I'm interested--coming from Gatwick area, so location in London doesn't make much of a difference for me.

To be perfectly honest, I am not sure where it will be.  I wanted to see how many we would have first and then figure it out from there.  It looks like we might have between 8 and 10 participants!!! Yeah!!!

Perhaps we could make it a lunch activity and reserve a table someplace?  Does that sound ok?

Any suggestions for a meeting place?  Sounds like Central London/Victoria works well for most.

Every idea I've come up with so far has had disadvantages.  Our favourite Tex/Mex place is way too noisy, but they do have a downstairs that they might reserve for us (and shut off the sound system for).  Our pub is nice, and would probably be quiet on a Saturday afternoon.  It also has a room set off to the side with a fireplace and serves food (but I am not sure when they start serving during the day).  It's not on a main street though, so it might be harder to find.

I am going to try to brainstorm with Mr. Moggs tonight.  I wouldn't mind any place really, as long as it fits our needs.

This meeting will not work for me, but I am definitely interested for next time!

Moggs, Where is your pub?  Not on a main street is not necessarily a bad thing.  Is it within walking distance of a tube or bus station?  If it is that would be fine by me.  How about the rest of the group?

Sounds perfectly lovely to me. Though the tex-mex place would  have been nice. :) It's been a while since I've had good mexican food.

We could do both, really.  Or do a cafe so that Karrit can hand out her cookies then have dinner elsewhere.

The Tex/Mex place is awesome.  It's not really purely what you'd get in the states.  There's definitely a British flair to it.  For instance, when we went there before giving up flour, we loved the nachos even though there was celery on them.  But the food is definitely great.

The pub is near both a bus and Victoria station.  I think it's on Cambridge Street.  There's another place where Mr. Moggs used to go for Dr. Who fan meetings when he was younger.  I am going to ask him for his suggestions when he gets home.  I should be able to post some more ideas over the weekend.

If there were ever plans for doing this on a weeknight I would be totally up for it.

Moggs, I would be up for the Tex-Mex place just as well as the Pub.  So, talk it over with Mr. Moggs and report back with what you think would be best.

Vicky, I am sorry you won't be able to join us.   For the next meeting I thought perhaps we could decide the meeting date, place and book here on the UK-Yankee Forum.  We were a bit dictator-ish with the date and book choice just to get the whole thing rolling this time, but we want to continue the club in a more democratic fashion!   ;D
