campbell's soups
« on: April 14, 2004, 10:39:50 PM »
Any ideas where I can buy American versions of Cambells tomato, bean and bacon, and chicken noodle soups over here?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I have always found it odd that Campbell's haven't brought over their Bean and Bacon Soup over here...when one whole aisle alone in all the grocery stores is themed 'baked beans'.

They have the Tomato soup here, though they call it "Cream of Tomato"...it's the same thing.

I miss the Chicken Noodle and Split Pea (but Bean and Bacon is my fave); Vegetable is just not the same as the States' one.

Since Campbell's already had a presence here, suppose we start a campaign for them to also bring over their more popular ones?

I have my mother send me bean with bacon soup (and another ex-pat just brought me some back from her trip to Florida last month, too).  However, I did find that Lentil and Bacon soup is a somewhat satisfactory substitute.  I really only use the bean with bacon in recipes, not to eat *by itself*, per se.

In fact, just made a wonderful spread with bean with bacon soup, tinned corned beef and English mustard - yummy on crusty bread!!  ;)

Yes, Mom has been sending me all of these soups for ages and is getting a bit tired of it! I was just a bit surprised that the expat shopping sites didn't have many of them. As a matter of fact, every time I look at these sites, they seem to have less and less on offer. Is this me?  :)

The dip sounds good, may have to have you post it in the cookbook when that's up!

Lil_u, yes, I've seen those soups but only the mushroom tastes remotely like the US version!

The tomato is definitely different - but again, I use it as a recipe ingredient and in that respect, the difference is negligible.
