I didn't look into the fine print, but I think the insurance commitment was a year.

The other thing about it is that Pruhealth does monitor your gym usage to make sure you're within the terms of the agreement (I think you have to go on average of 2x a week). That could be really good motivation to make sure you go regularly, or a real pain. :-\\\\

The Lewis link takes you through the basics -- I'm not sure as to the term you have to sign up for with Pruhealth, it may well be a year.  But I think he also said something about Pruhealth has signed a three year reciprocal agreement with the gyms involved on this scheme - double check that on the link.

This is true - but Lewis points out that you really need only go & sign in or swipe in to the gym.  They just want the evidence that you've been there, but they're not going to be monitoring whether you stayed & actually worked out... :P  But still good incentive if you're already there to swipe in... :)

I got to trial a new piece of equipment at the gym today!  And I got a free towel for doing it!  It's a Nautilus brand product called a TreadClimber -- a treadmill, but with a separate treadmill for each foot with a motion that is kind of a cross between a treadmill and stepping.  To me, it simulates walking uphill - which is perfect for my training! :)

I am looking forward to using it again because it was a good workout -- if I can get on it, as they only installed two of them!

I love new gym machines.  I finally found a workout I am really liking...Body combat, it reminds me of Tae Bo but it much cooler and more fast paced. Nothing hurt doing this and I was more focused on the workout than what was hurting (as in spinning my butt was crying out).

Aww man!!! I wish we lived closer cos I would TOTALLY go with you! I love Body Combat!!! The class at my new gym is too early in the evening for me to get there, so I'll be trying Body Attack. I've never tried that one and I can't work out what the difference is.

I wish that too....but I did learn that I have to invest in a much better sports bra, the bouncing in the stance was a bit hurty.

I wish a lot of other women at the gym would invest in A sports bra! :-X

Sigh. The pruhealth thing isn't gonna be good enough I'm afraid. My quote was £38 p/m and dh's was £40. So for the first month I'd be looking at £88, and then the next two would be £63 p/m. I just can't swing it....

Guess I'm just not destined to be a gym girl this year.  >:(

I am just enjoying the time I have at the gym now, because I am pretty sure the gym membership even at a leisure center is out of our reach....it stinks.

I swear by the council gyms I go to (Tower Hamlets, even though I live in Southwark now). They just went through a huge refurbishment a couple years ago so they're nice and new and since I've been a member for nearly 5 years now I'm still paying an old rate that just gets bumped 1 pound for inflation every year or so. Mine's currently £31 for unlimited access to any of the Tower Hamlets gyms and pools, but I really only ever go to York Hall and the John Orwell Sports Centre in Wapping.

And after my Boot Camp instructor overslept last Monday, this week's class was a killer! My gluts and triceps were still killing me today for my long run, but I stopped noticing it after the first 2k or so. No matter how many I do, the weighted lunges and the boxing still make me sore!!

Last night I took Body Attack at my gym. I'd never done it before because when it was being launched at my old gym, I was moving to England! I have to say, I didn't like it. You literally run in place for 55 minutes and so some movements with your arms, but not many. While the instructor was awesome, I didn't think this was too fun. I'm bummed because the only Body Combat class they run is too early for me to get to and I was hoping to do this one in its place. However, I discovered the FF in Bristol offers it at a reasonable hour, so I'll be able to pop over there after work.

After not having done regularly exercise since leaving school (and now in my 40's), I finally plucked up courage last April to join the gym we have onsite at work (only costs £15 a month). Actually got quite into it and rarely miss a day when I'm at work - usually go at 11am for a hour and then eat lunch of salad or jacket potato back at my desk after. Lost over 2 stone so far and feel much better for it.
Every 8 weeks or so I have an assessment with the gym instructor and swap over my schedule a bit.
I was mainly doing cardio at first, then introduced weights - but I found my right elbow was hurting often....he suggested less weight but more reps and did the trick.
What I do now is alternate days, so first session of week will be just cardio - start with some sit-ups then 30 mins on cross trainer and 15-20 mins on either exercise bike or rowing machine (sometimes 10 mins on each if really going for it!)
Next day is primarily weights and stomach exercises, but with a 15-20 min cross trainer session.

Introduced this as at my previous assessment, although I'd lost weight it seemed most was from muscle!  :\\\'(
My last assessment I hadn't lost weight but had increased the muscle %!

Though what with visit from DF so just over a week off work when she was here, and then time off cause of dad's death I'll have about 3 weeks with only 1 gym session.

When I went to Philly for Thanksgiving I even managed to get a weeks membership at DF's gym and got there about 5 or 6 times over the 10 days I was there....limited my weight gain to just 2lbs!

Can I join the Gym Thread?  I don't have a gym membership (whenever I have, all I ever used was the treadmill) but my new treadmill just arrived! :)

You can pretend you're at the gym while you're on it! Have your husband lift some weights and check you out while you're on it. That's what my gym is like!
