Spaying cats.
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:55:42 PM »
Well my vet wants to charge £75 each to have my 2 kittens spayed, so they cant have kittens. I rang around the local animal shelters/sanctuaries and they do it for less than 1/2 the price at £32.50 each. Just thought i would pass this information on, in case anyone was looking to get this done. Plus if you are on benefits, you can apply for a voucher from the cats protection league to have it done for free.

Booked my cats in for 1/2 term holiday when i am not teaching so instead of £150 i am paying £65 for two

I wonder if they give vouchers out for older people.  I am not sure what qualifies as benefits, but my inlaws are over 70 and have a cat who needs to be spayed.  I will look into this.  Thanks for posting this.

I live in the States, and got my younger cat spayed through Animal Control last year.  It cost $60.  I had to get her shots done at least 2 weeks prior, and had no problem with that.

Just remember, you often get what you pay for...

We just spent a ridiculous amount of money having our two cats spayed, micro-chipped, and tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS, but that's mostly because I was paranoid and had the pre-anesthesia blood tests done.  I think the surgery itself was around £50 per cat, and the blood tests were £100 per cat.  Mine were both in heat when they were spayed, so I didn't mind paying a bit more.  I'm not really bothered by vet bills, though, and consider anything that keeps my cats healthy a bargain, no matter what the price.

yeah I agree. I just had my dog neutered last week. I pay £61 total. The surgery iteself was very clean and the staff extremely professional. He goes back on Saturday to have his stitches out. We liked the surgery, staff and care so much we decided to switch from our dumpy 'cheap' surgery to this one.

TBH we paid about £50 to get our cat neutered.. and I swear they didn't do it properly because he still runs around like a crazy kitty.. he behaviour hasnt changed at all but i still love him.  Although, a bit of a funny story.. when he was sitting in his cage after he had his surgery everytime one of the ladies that worked at the vet walked by he'd reach his paw out of the cage and touch their bum....... so much for curving his testosterone level ::)  ;)  The ladies at the vets thought it was hilarious!

I just called today to set the appointment to have our boys neutered. It's going to be £34 each, minus the £25 each we get off from the vouchers the RSPCA gave us when we adopted them.

Shamu is going to cost extra because there will be exploratory surgery (he has an undescended testicle).

This is going to our regular vet, who is very good and came highly recommended by Adam's parents.
