Both widespread within the UK so whichever you prefer I guess.

Personally, I've had a long held dislike of Barclays since their support of South Africa during aparthaid!

I learned to put politics aside when choosing a bank or gas station years ago. If I stuck to my convictions, I'd be hiding my money in my freezer and converting my new car to biodiesel. (I had the bank crisis when I was doing stuff to support the Zapatistas and had to choose a provider for my undergrad student loans.)

That said, I'm with Barclays now. HSBC were going to charge me to have an account with them because I'm a recent immigrant.

Plus Barclays has a free pen dispenser next to the paying in slips.

You'd need to check with Barclays whether that's possible.

I went to ask in Barclays, but they don't provide this service.
but HSBC does, they can open a new account for me while i'm out of UK.
it'll be a personal account.
is this type of account will help me in ILR.

thanks

I don't think the type of account you have will affect your ILR.

We chose HSBC because Barclay's wouldn't even touch me despite the fact DH tried to do everything jointly. In fact they wouldn't even LOOK at me when we walked inside. Went into HSBC and didn't have a problem at all!  Didn't even charge for the account!

I have 3 types of first direct accounts and they are part of HSBC and Several joint HSBC accounts and I did not get charged and they also have several branches in the USA and all over the world, they have always been very accessable and helpful, and they do internet banking which is straight forward and it can connect to other HSBC accounts you may have, as with first direct also.

I find them both very helpful .
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

That's funny because we didn't have any trouble at all with Barclays & setting up a joint account.  DH has banked with them since he first got a bank account.  They were ever so friendly & they were even trying to talk me into coming to work for them! :)

But it sounds like mazm's need has been met by HSBC.  Good luck! :)

a lot of my friends told me this is very good, but other said No.
