question about proof of previous visits/etc -
« on: April 15, 2004, 06:46:26 PM »
[okay, i told myself that until the wedding was over i would not think about/ stress over visa issues...] - but this one is on my mind today ....
(i should point out first that i will be applying for the spouse-settlement visa)-

as i have found out today that my (soon-to-be) spouse cannot come with me for my appointment at the NYC consulates, i now know that i must be prepared to submit 'proof' of our relationship. i am in the UK now and have no access to any of my old ticket stubs at my place of residence in the states.
-
my previous passport bearing the stamps of my visits to the UK was accidentally washed in the washing machine in january prompting me to obtain a new passport but i was not able to keep my old ruined one, so i am not sure what i can use as previous proof of trips to the UK.

as far as emails are concerned - how valid are they really considered when used as documentation of the relationship?

(i know many people have used them, and i probably will print a selection out as well.)

last question for now -
since i will be applying for a spouse-settlement visa, is it still as important to prove the history of the relationship as it would be for say a fiance visa?

(i feel the visa nervousness setting in already...)
(sorry for the length of this post..)

any ideas/hints/advice on how i can best handle providing proof of our relationship would be appreciated....

thank you much in advance:)
-trish

Don't worry.  You shouldn't need so much "proof of relationship" as long as you have your marriage certificate!  It's a spouse visa - meaning you've already done the deed.  ;)

Relax.  Enjoy being pregnant.  Enjoy your wedding (TOMORROW!!).  The visa will be a piece of cake.  You'll have a marriage certificate and a wedding ring and (hopefully) wedding photos.  That should be proof of relationship enough!  ;) ;)

:grins: thanks for that...
i know (like anyone else who has or will be applying for a visa soon) that the nervous feeling of not having enough documents is normal and that i am probably just over-worrying...but i just want to make sure i have all the bases covered... :)

thanks again :)

Where are you getting married...UK or USA? We went to the British Embassy basically on our honeymoon (had gotten married in UK on Sat and showed up at embassy that Mon). Only proof that we were in any kind of relationship was the obvious one...our marriage certificate. I did have proof that I had been living there for several months because I had in my possession some bank statements from my bank back in the states with my UK address (his residence) on them...they never asked for any proof of where I had been residing, so I never showed them those statements with the addresses.

I know that if my husband had not been able to be there with me, the application said for him to write a letter expressing that he could take care of me, etc.

We just provided everything that was required of us on the spouse/settlement application...no more, no less.

Hope that this makes sense.
BTW, have been in your shoes...relax, enjoy your wedding!! ;)

When we applied for my spousal visa, we weren't asked for any proof of relationship....no cards, letters, emails, photos, etc.

If you'd like to read about our experience at the NYC consulate, check out my webpage.  :-)

it makes sense definitely... we are getting married in the UK (yay..tomorrow morning!!) :)
i was told today when i phoned the consulates that my spouse will have to write a letter of intent now that he cannot come with me to the appointment. (i hope appointment does not mean interview... stress makes me so nauseous these days!)

thanks for the reply... good to know that my feelings are isolated ones...:)

Glad to be of service...I think everyone who goes through this process should be REQUIRED to post their experience...Lord knows it'd help to calm all of us down!  ;-)
