thankfully I can plug my hairdryer in the hallway and still use it in the bathroom!

I dont 'miss' it because i let my hair air-dry naturally.
But even if i did blow dry my hair, i wouldnt use it in the bathroom, as it would be too noisy and would wake up DH, so i would use it downstairs instead.

You need to take some control of your life.  :) Change the furniture, buy curtains.  Do what it takes so that you can dry your hair in comfort without crawling over things or knocking things off the table.

Sadly, this situation is because I took control of my life. It's the minor inconvenience that resulted. I decided where I wanted the bed, and which side Adam got. I decided to clean the bedroom and place bags of stuff to sort through in front of the other outlet. And I decided that our living room should be used as an art gallery to sell Adam's artwork.

I also miss the outlets in the bathroom because I used to bring a radio in while I soaked in the bath.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

i have a socket in the hallway that i sometimes use if i want to bring my little TV or DVD player into the bathroom while i soak.
I have a battery powered radio in the bathroom as well.

See, I've got the opposite problem - I have to dry my hair in the bedroom, which thus does wake DH up because it's so noisy.  There's no other place with a mirror for me (other than the bathroom!!).  :-\\\\

I wash and dry my hair daily and when I first moved here I had a hard time adjusting to not doing my hair in the bathroom but now I'm pretty much used to it. In fact if I go to the US I find myself doing my hair in the bedroom.

I rarely blow dry or set/straighten my hair so it's not a huge issue for me but if I had to chose, I do prefer doing it in a nice tiled bathroom where it's easier to sweep up the hair than in a crowded bedroom. DH does use a dryer (such a pretty boy!) and he sheds SO MUCH hair. I hate that he has to do it in our bedroom or dining room.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Freaked me out when I saw a hairdryer placed right next to the sink when I was over there....the normal light switches are bad enough!

What's wrong with the switches?

In that I worry that my hands may still be wet, I always flick them with my elbow! (Of course that couldn't be wet!).....now I realise that this may be an irrational fear but I just don't like normal light switches in bathrooms having been used to pull cords and brought up not to take electrical items in the bathroom.
I remember when I used to have a radio/casette player in there.....I either left just outside the door (with door open), or ran it off batteries.

Fair enough.  I'm not saying that it's a good idea to go operating light switches with soaking  wet hands, but to just flick a normal American light switch on or off with damp fingers isn't really that much of a problem.  The electrical contacts on both the traditional toggles and the Decora-style rockers are sufficiently well hidden inside the switch that a spot or two of water on the operating handle isn't a hazard.  It would have to get pretty wet for there to be leakage from the contacts inside through the water to the handle.

Although many people don't realize it, the British wiring rules don't actually have an absolute prohibition on normal wall switches in a bathroom anyway.  They only specify that wall switches must be so placed that they can't be operated by somebody who is actually in the bathtub or shower cubicle.

I miss having an outlet in the bathroom simply because I spent my first three years in England freezing my ars* off. I used to run out of the bathroom naked and use the hair dryer to dry me off and warm me up.  :-X

In addition, to what Paul said, a lot of American light switches and outlets in bathrooms and kitchens have safety guards on them just in case.  :)

Strangely there are two radiators in our bathroom. It's the warmest room in the house!!

My bathroom had a hard wired heater too, but all it did was make the bathroom more steamy and wet, and made my clothes wet also.

A hairdryer keeps everything dry and loverly.
