Ok, maybe this is slightly off topic as it is not specifically about food, but rather the packaging that food comes in.  Whenever traveling to another country I am always enamored with the variety of ways that people come up with to package food.  Generally I would classify most of it as just "different".  Some is brilliant and you wonder why everyone doesn't do it that way.  Then there are the humdingers.  The closing of bread in the UK has go to be one of the humdingers.....cellotape?  What about twisty ties and bread clips?

I don't mind the tape. It actually makes me feel like I am not adding to the waste that twist ties and clips do. I usually just twist the bag and keep it on the counter or fridge. If I was traveling with it I'd probably want something more secure but for general purposes it is just fine.  :)

Don't get me started on the wrapping for fruit and veg though!! I try to avoid it when I can. I even bought mesh veg bags so I can avoid the plastic bags... because what's the point of using your own shopping bag when you will just pick up smaller veg bags.

I haven't noticed the tape since DB usually does the bread when I'm there, but that explains why DB doesn't keep the twisty ties or clips on any of the bread bags here!

I have a packet of those plastic clip things from Ikea.  I LOVE them.  I use them all the time.  Life's too short to work yourself up about bread packaging.

I must say that over the course of the last four and a half years it has never once occurred to me to consider bread packaging. The bread doesn't fall out. Works for me.

Never bothered me. I either use my own twist ties or else make do with the tape. Is it really that much of a hardship?!?!   ???

I don't think the OP is making a huge deal of it, really. Just offering it up for a point of contrast. FWIW, I agree. I hate the tape.

ETA, ok just read the link, too. Still, to each their own. We all have our silly pet peeves.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I hate the bloody tape also, as a nail biter, I always have to use a scissor or a knife and wind up cutting the bag open. I have those tag things from Ikea and I use them all the time...but my 2 year old does love to hide them around the house!

I too love looking at packaging of foods around the world.

I buy Warburtons white in the blue wax paper package. Once it's opened there's no way to close it. I just crinkle it up and hope it stays fresh till next time.

These are great. We use them on everything--bread, cereal, crackers--any and everything. I thoroughly recommend them. Lakeland also has them.

I'm sure the plastic tie things used to be used on bread in the UK in the past?  I have memories of them when I was a kid.

I have never found it difficult to open the bread in the UK that has the plastic tape type thing nor have I found it difficult to re-use it each time I open the bag. It sticks back together fine each time.
