Yorkshire is the best great thing about the UK - indeed! ;) ;D

I'd say so, they are very popular here in Scotland from my experience.

We definitely eat it in Wales! I'd say it's an 'all over Britain' thing.  :)

I haven't eaten Yorkshire pudding since I stopped eating meat.. I just can't disconnect it from meat and gravy.  Anyone have a good vegetarian combo?

And yes, I think everyone eats it.. mom is English, nana came from SI, grandfather from NI.. the other side from Scotland.  Not everyone makes it well, but they all eat it!

Pud and two veg! ;) ;D Actually, I'm perfectly serious about that. Just had it last weekend: Yorkshire pudding, cabbage, carrots, and veggie gravy. Yum.

Alternatively, toad-in-the-hole with veggie sausages works well and feels like a little more like a "main dish". I sometimes make a recipe that also includes thinly sliced red bell peppers and fresh thyme with the sausages, which is really scrummy.

Will try!  (I think my main problem is that when I see Yorkshire pudding, I develop a huge craving for roast beef..)

There was a pub near where I used to work that did these scrummy giant yorkshire puddings, filled with mashed potatoes, mushrooms in gravy and veggies.  It was SO GOOOOOD!!!

By the way, in my 1930s American Women's Cookbook, there is a recipe for Yorkshire Pud only they call them "Popovers" - maybe they were popular in the US at one time? Or maybe in a particular region?

I think they still are popular in the US! I remember the first time I had one ... I remember thinking, "It's just like Yorkshire pud!!!" That was a happy day.  :)

i used to make popovers in the states- they're very much like a yorkshire- except

- usually made in individual tall muffin tins
- usually a bit sweeter
- butter is used instead of animal fat/oil

oh so yummy with butter & jam/lemon juice!
