How bad is it that all this discussion of ambrosia salad actually got me thinking that I might make some tonight, because I think I have all the ingredients I'll need....

I used to eat all those jello 'salads' - still would if offered something, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to make.  I remember orange jello with carrots & pineapple chunks.  And lime jello with pear halves topped with grated cheddar cheese.  I'm sure there were many others!  I love grossing my British family out with my descriptions of them! :D

Nothing will ever, ever (for me) top my memory of being forced to eat milk jello with dried fruit and canned fruit in it, at school.

Try looking for "Irish Bacon"-  - which is pretty well available, but I think it may be more like streaky bacon that back bacon- but really yummy.  And there is always Canadian Bacon, readily available, for the more hamlike taste of back bacon.

I'm Canadian Bacon is a little thicker than what I'm looking for. I've never seen Irish bacon and I've tried looking for all variations that it could be called...standing there in the refrigeration section staring at each pack of bacon.  :(

Did you know Iowa is actually Jello capitol of the world?  No kidding. They consume more Jello per capita than anyplace else.

Gotta correct on that one.  Iowa was kicked off the throne by Utah.  I so can't believe people actually measure things like this.  It's even more frightening that I would remember them.   ::) ;D

Jell-O made me throw up when I was about 12 or so   [smiley=puke.gif]--after that I never ate it again.

How bad is it that all this discussion of ambrosia salad actually got me thinking that I might make some tonight, because I think I have all the ingredients I'll need....

This discussion actually made me go make some pasta salad with mayo & ranch dressing (pasta shells, mixed veg and heaps of mayo). It was all the talk of 'mayo' and 'salad' that did me in.

I suppose this thread shows I am very susceptible - sloppy joes one night, pasta salad the next....

You know what I had a week or two ago? Queso dip made with Rotel tomatoes/chilies and good ole Velveeta! (Brought back with me when we went to the US in November - I held out this long!)  I didn't know Velveeta actually had added sugar (dried corn syrup) but to be honest, I doubt I ever read the label before.  Steve did & said - Why do the Americans put sugar in everything? :-[  (I think Manwich probably has added sugar as well...) I was hoping I had lost my taste for Velveeta, and cutting off just a small hunk of it to eat as I was dicing it for melting - yeah it did taste pretty foul & disgusting, so I thought this is a good thing! But once it was all melted up with the Rotel & I was dipping Doritos into it - I am sad to report it was just as fabulous as ever! And so bad for me...all that fat & salt (and sugar!). Good thing it's really hard to come by over here... :P

[smiley=laugh4.gif]  I am laughing so hard at this because I did the exact same thing.  I haven't made meatloaf in about 13 years, but one mention from UK Yankee and I was craving it like none other.  I went right out and made it the next night.  DH was asking where I got the idea, and I didn't dare tell him that UKY had me craving yet another random American food.
