Sty treatment
« on: February 05, 2008, 12:22:44 PM »
My three year old has a nasty stye on his left eyelid. I know it's a stye because I used to get them when I was a kid.
Jacks stye started off like a small red spot but now it's come to a head and is about a swollen as a BB pellet. I called my GP but they're booked until Friday! I'm not really too concerned as he hasn't been complaining about it but does anyone know how to treat these things? I've read on the internet to apply warm compresses for 15 mins at a time but I just don't think he would sit still for that long.

I use the warm compress too. I don't know what else might work :( Maybe lay him down on the couch in front of the tv with his favourite cartoon with the compress on?

Warm compresses here as well.  I know someone who used to pop them with a needle, but that is not a good idea at all.

My family folk remedy has always been to gently rub a gold ring on the stye. Don't laugh. It always worked on me!  :)

I used to get them when I was younger, and I always used a teabag (black) that was still warm from brewing.  A compress alone never worked for me.  It never took that long to break (a couple of minutes tops).

I've read about the teabag thing too. If I can get him to sit still maybe I'll put my wedding ring on his eyelid with the teabag in the middle and a warm washcloth on top!  ;D

;D  Well it's bound to work. If nothing else the weight of all that stuff would probably pop the darn thing!  :o

The ring thing is way to weird!!

I suppose you could ring NHS direct and see if they have anything to add - though I doubt they'd beat the ring cure!!!  ;)

I was talking to one of my British friends today. I asked her if she had any idea what I could put on it and she said "use your wedding ring." I busted up laughing!

Silver has antibiotic properties, so I could see that maybe.  I am not sure about gold, of course I don't think rubbing anything with a silver ring would work.

But I hope your little guy feels better soon.
