But can't you also make refried beans with black beans? This is stated on the Wiki refried beans page (Refried beans are prepared with either black or pinto beans). Therefore you can have refried beans without pinto beans.

Why yes you can  My ex father in law was Hispanic and they used either or.

Perhaps they are used as something to get by, but the fact is that you don't have to freak out about someone wanting to get some pinto beans.

Nor do you have to freak out and whine because someone doesn't like it that you call them this, that or the other.

I believe, at least when this started, people were attempting to clarify what you were looking for in order to provide you with better assistance.

dontcallmeyank, this thread is gonna be looked at by other people. We're simply trying to provide complete information in it and avoid confusion. So that people looking for refried beans in the future, don't accidentally buy a can of pinto (or black) beans instead, expecting them to be the same thing.

I'm thinking you may be right.

Reading this after working night shift last night and not sleeping much today is making my head spin.  Now you know where to buy the beans. Just buy them, do what ever you want with them and let go.  Come on, they are just beans.  (pinto if you prefer)

Ah peedal.. I'm so glad you're back around these parts.   Otherwise, we'd all think pinto beans were the same as refried beans!  

I think Pinto beans can now join the list of my favourite topics...it's right up there with mixer taps!
