my sister's coming over for a week next march.

she wants to go to london but she refuses to use the tube ::)

if we take her down via train, we'll arrive into marylebone station--what's nearby that's touristy and worthy of a visit?

That's the station that I come in to and in terms of the immediate surroundings there ain't much. But if you're willing to walk a bit you can get to Oxford Street, etc. pretty easily.

Will she take a bus? I think that would be your best bet. You can use the tfl site to plan a journey and in advanced options you can avoid tubes, etc. so that it only gives you bus journies....

MTA: Maddame Tussauds is right there - forgot about that....

Lots of things within walking distance. My suggestion would to get on a bus from there and see the rest of London.

Regents park
Oxford Street
The London Zoo

If walking isn't an issue - you can walk all the way to Marble Arch and the on through Hyde Park.   Through Hyde Park, keep going to Kensington Palace and gardens.  It's about 2-2.5 miles depending on which way you walk.  Then if she still can't be convinced to take the very safe (albeit crowded and smelly) Tube, take a cab back to the station.  It won't be more than about £10-12, if it's not rush hour.

You don't say if your sister is a walker but Regent's Park is very close to the station (to the east) and Hyde Park is a fairly short walk (to the south and west). Many of central London attractions are within reach of the station either on foot or as others have suggested, by bus, which is also the best way to see the city!

If you can mange Hyde Park, "Royal" London landmarks are just a few steps further.

Close to the station is Marylebone High Street. It's a very nice shopping street with small shops, cafes and restaurants -- definitely worth the visit.

The Wallace Collection (http://www.wallacecollection.org) on Manchester Square is relatively close and one of my favourite musems in London and Oxford Street is just a block or two south.

The Wallace Collection is set in Hertford House, the main London townhouse of the former owners of the collection and the building/furnishings are as beautiful as the art.

Madame Tussauds and the London Planetrium are on Marylebone Road a few blocks east of the station is those venues are of any interest.

Buses are easy and will take you everywhere.  Buy an oyster card (you can get the £3 deposit back) as this will make it more economical on the buses.

I second all the walking and bus recs. I try to take the bus most places because I enjoy the experience better. If you are just down for the day, buy a day pass. You can buy these from machines at most major bus stops in London.

Just curious. Why won't she use the tube?

Seconding the Wallace Collection.  Arguably the best Canaletto collection in the UK.

And of course the world-renown Sea Shell is a scant 50 yards from Marylebone Station...

What is the Sea Shell?

It's a chippie.  Plain and basic.

Except somebody like Brue Willis or Liam Gallager might ask to borrow your vinegar.
