Samson about to lose his happy home!
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:27:10 PM »
As everyone knows I've been having a lot of trouble with my unsocialised, aggressive German Shep, Samson.
We had him neutered nearly 4 weeks ago and his aggression has gotten much much worse. Not only is he attacking the post as it comes through the door but now he's attacking the door itself! The new door we only just bought a month ago I might add.
So today I had to take him to the vet for a booster shot. As usual I have to wait outside with him because he can't be around any other animals. As I'm waiting outside a lady came out with her two West Highland Terriers on leads and Samson lost it. I really thought I was going to release the lead. There was absolutely no way to control him. Finally I got him back in the car after he shook me about for awhile. I came home pretty with a sore back, neck and bruised hand. I just can't take this anymore from him.  :\\\'(  I came home and actually sobbed like a baby. I've never had a problem with my dogs. They've always been so well behaved but Samson is just not normal or something. I decided I think he should be re homed but who would take him on? I don't want to take him to the RSPCA because he would go bonkers with all those other dogs around and I can't just let him go to anybody because he is really a problem.  :\\\'(
Any advice at all?

So sorry to hear :( Call the breed rescue in your area they usually have lists of people willing to foster them even problem dogs. Good luck.

Not sure what area you are in, if that doesn't help let me know and we'll keep looking.

Thanks. I'm in tears just thinking about it. It's just too much of a challenge with the kids, etc. I don't know how anyone else could possibly handle this dog. He would be a great police dog as he loves to 'work' but would they be able to handle him? Is he too old?  :\\\'(

Thanks everyone. I sent out a few emails to various places including theh Hertforshire police who are looking for GSD's.
My breeder said she would rehome him but I just know he wouldn't be able to handle being around all those other GSD's!!

Great we'll keep our fingers crossed! I have had to have 2 dogs re homed in the past. The first was DH's dog. He was terribly aggressive with small things that made noise but that was very much what his breed was about ie he was a ratting dog. He was a terrier and could open doors and had adopted as yet unborn sons baby cot as his own. It put fear in my heart to imagine what he might do when he found a crying baby in his favourite resting spot. I did not wait to see what might happen, it doesn't bare thinking about! Otherwise he was the perfect dog he was very clever and knew a lot of cool tricks and not aggressive in any other circumstances. The other was a Newfie  :\\\'( :\\\'( My all time favourite breed. I suffered a bad injury and could not use my hand for nearly 6 months. She was at a critical stage in her development and I really feared as a giant breed, she would suffer socialisation problems if I did not get her into a home where she could be walked and meet people regularly as I could no longer do it. The breed rescue were lovely and have kept me up to date on her progress. She now lives in Scotland and is doing wonderfully which makes me feel better. I miss her so much.
Don't feel bad things happen outside our control sometimes and yes it's very sad especially when you have put your heart and soul into a dog.

Thanks Mwyn for sharing that story. I feel horrible and extremely guilty about rehoming him but he deserves a better life which we just can't offer him. He needs a lot of attention and a lot of space where he can run.
He would be the first dog I've ever had to rehome. I've adopted a few rescue dogs in the past and had other dogs and never had any problems.  :-\\\\
