That, geeta, would require my husband finding a non-manual vehicle to offer up to me; I can't drive stick.  Last time I did, I drove right into a ditch... not really encouraging.  Now, if it were learning stick, and THEN driving the wrong side of the road, that would be one thing, but not together, oh no. ><

No, you don't need to do any driving to get a provisional license!  You just need to get the photos and send off the application.  I have one and have NEVER driven in the UK.  It's actually quite helpful, even in the US as an ID.

Definitely!  It's totally worth it.  I used to use it all the time when I needed an ID that British people were familiar with and I didn't want to use my passport (like I had used it for flights between London and Edinburgh).  I just used it the other day when I needed to get access to a building and didn't have my US driver's license (it's lost)...the woman was like, 'don't you have any government ID?' and I pulled out my UK license and voila.

Hee hee, word.  I'm not too enamored of the DirectGov site setup (asking for a password and my credit card details before it even tells me how to send them a bloody picture!), but it seems like it'll be pretty cut and dried.  And while I have my US drivers license (with the decade-old photo, oh lawd!), I'd much rather a locally-issued non-passport ID for that exact reason - something people around these parts can and will recognize! :D

Yes, the Pottery Barn white sale catalog. *drool* *sigh*
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

A little letter from an old work friend back in the US.  She is someone I got closer to right before I left the US and I'm really pleasantly surprised we've kept in touch!

I got a card from my cousin. She knows I've been going through a tough time the last month so she sent it along with some pictures to cheer me up.
