Pink Patch
« on: February 13, 2008, 07:21:48 AM »
Never heard of it and then for some reason it's all I'm hearing about this week.

Anyone tried it? It seems too gimmicky to me but I'd like to hear it anyone has actually used them.

I did a bit of poking around and it does look a bit gimmicky. There is a tiny bit of logic in the ingredients. Iodine (in seaweed) can help weight loss a bit in some cases and 5HTP is meant to help stabilize moods - it's associated with antidepressants. DH took 5HTP for a little while when he was working nights as it's also meant to help regulate your circadian rhythms. And I did quite a bit of research and there's nothing inherently dangerous about it (there was a scare some years ago but it wasn't to do with the actual compound). It doesn't look as though there's anything particularly harmful in it - I suppose it could be a placebo sort of thing, but there's nothing wrong with that if it works. It does say, as all diet tricks do, that it should be used along with a healthy diet and exercise, so my hunch is that it's just another gimmick.

I try desperately not to fall for quick fixes, and I know that my problem is mostly emotional eating, but I did order the free trial supply. I figure what the hell - if it tricks me into thinking eating isn't the answer then it will be useful. And it was free to try.

I don't know, but I am really sick of seeing the banner at every place I go that has to do with fitness.  But, I could see myself looking into the product if it were around when I was counting calories.

Conflicting opinions on Yerba Mate, one of the ingredients.

AnneR, let us know how you get on with it.

AnneR - how did the "free" trial work?

AnneR - how did the "free" trial work?

I kept meaning to dig this thread out!!

I suppose it could have been a placebo, but it seemed to actually do something for me. It's hard to say with only a week's trial (I cancelled before getting another mailing because I'm a bit skint right now but otherwise I would have kept with it for a bit to see if it carried on helping).

What I noticed was that I didn't feel that I "needed" to eat between breakfast and lunch - which is the time I struggle most not to snack. So either: it killed my appetite a bit, it made me THINK it killed my appetite, or it made me more aware of my habits and more tuned in to whether or not I was actually hungry (I'm an emotional eater - boredom and stress being my triggers).

To be honest I would try it again if I had the cash.

Whatcha think, Peedal? Wanna give it a go? I'm tempted but a bit worried that years down the line it'll come out that Yerba stuff is actually very harmful or something like it.

Well, I've ordered the "free" sample.

I know what you mean about potential time-bombs, though.  I'm hoping 6 days won't be enough to kill me!

I know I'm not exactly the product's target consumer, but I do have a kind of hectic lifestyle with the commute and working through lunch a lot of times at work.  So I figure I'll give it a go.

I don't believe for a minute that it's going to be a magic patch.  But if, like AnneR says, it simply makes me more aware and is a mind over matter thing, then that can't be too bad, can it?  I've decided that I'd be willing to buy one month's supply if the 6 days don't go too wrong, to give it a real try.

It's not like I want to drop a lot of weight (though I probably could stand to).  I just more would like to not gain anymore, and maybe get rid of 5-10 pounds and see where that leaves me.  As long as it's in the right places!!

The most I've seen ads for this is at my email host. Are they trying to tell me something?

I did weigh myself the other day and in the past two years (almost) I've gained 2 1/2 stone!! :o

Let me know how it works peedal. I was considering trying the free trial (even though it's not REALLY free...silly p&p).

If you read some of the review websites, they say that this like most other "quick fixes" is pretty much a load of crap.  I'll be interested to read about real people's progress here!

I did this for two weeks prior to my vacation. Maybe I didn't do it long enough, but it didn't alter my eating habits one bit. :(
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Those of you who did this - how long did it take to get the stupid free sample?!  They've had my money for days now, and I'm very aware that you have 14 days from shipping not receipt to cancel before they decided you've signed up to the monthly thing.

A week maybe? It took a bit longer than I'd expected it to, but I chalked that up to success - I'll bet they're shipping a lot out with all the advertising they've done....

I looked into this......Its a appetite suppressant.....and it is defo a gimmick...look at the way they advertise towards younger women...teenagers...

You can buy healthy products from any health shop....that do the same thing as they advertise....fiber suppresses your appetite and Evening Primrose oil capsules helps with period problems.......cod liver oil or ginseng for concentration blah blah blah...

Water is my advice...If you feel hungry drink some water...if you still feel hungry then have something to eat after you have had a drink....less room in your tummy created by the water means you will feel full up quicker...

Not only that but water acts like a river to wash the slurry of your food away quicker..and good for your skin!

Um, yeah, thanks for that.  I'm not sure I ever would have thought of actually looking into it or considering other ways of losing weight.   ::)
