Oh hurray!
There is a Chinese market up Gloucester Road. That's about a forty minute walk from where I live. However, I recently found a place that's not only bigger but much closer to where I love - a fraction of the distance. AND they sell roast duck on Sundays! I bought myself a big huge bag of proper Chinese glutinous rice and it's been a little bit of heaven ever since. Although I'm Korean by birth, American via various documents and adoptive parents, I've been an absolute fan of proper Chinese food for years and years and years - I blame my Chinese teacher from years ago. So this has been one of the most exciting things - yeah, it may be a little sad, all geared up about a Chinese market. But after living five minutes from a Mitsuwa in Los Angeles, good Chinese ingredients are just about heaven sent.
I also happen to live in a building situated above a restaurant that serves some lovely (MSG free!) dim-sum.
For Bristol Ex-pats:
The restaurant (Fuschia) has its entrance on Nelson Street.
The Chinese Market is just over Bristol Bridge, the second right off of Victoria Street
