Filing taxes: the simplest questions are doing my head in!
« on: February 23, 2008, 07:55:47 PM »
I've been reading back through the US-UK Taxes forum to try and find some answers, but I'm stuck on three basic questions.

1) I'm the USC.  I married DH, the UK citizen, in January 2007; therefore, this is my first time filing anything other than single.  Do I file jointly or separately?

2) What address do I use to file?  I still have a GA driver's license, GA-based current account, county voter registration, etc.  Do I use my permanent US address?  Or my UK address?

3) I have no W-2s - I didn't have a job last year.  What forms do I need to file?  Do I need to bother with the 2555 if I have no income to report?

Thanks to anyone who can help me sort this stuff out!!

No problem!

1. You must file Married Filing Separate
2. Any address you want can go on the return
3. You don't file the 2555 if you have no foreign earned income

Don't forget to file a GA return too because residence in GA is based on domicile and it sounds as if GA would think you are domiciled there.
