That's it... you're done!
« on: February 25, 2008, 05:19:11 PM »
Our Tesco and Asda accounts are in dh's name, because he ordered from them online long before I moved here.  We just kept his account, and dh really resisted me starting a new one.  DH pointed out we wouldn't have our points in one place.  I used to do the ordering and then have him give me his card when I was done to process it, but lately he's really taken on ordering the food.  Any time I even mentioned it, he'd tell me he'd do it, and not to worry.  Either he's trying to send me coded messages, or he just is ordering large amounts of what he wants, and not paying attention to the list we make together.  It's not Tesco changing things out, I've checked.  One example is I wanted mince, I got pre-made hamburgers and a box of mince this week.  Last week he forgot to order any chicken.  Oh, and nothing to make salad with *again*.  And then there's the loads of extra "cool stuff" he gets, but that rots in our fridge.  This isn't so bad now that we have extra money to play with.  We do talk through the list together.

The reason I think dh is sending me messages is, we have a stock pile of chips in our freezer.  I've been trying to cut those out, because all he ate before we were married was meat and chips.  I've been trying to sneak more vitamins and minerals into his meals.   I notice the ice cream and coke turn up regularly though.   ::)

DH is not impressed when I look over his shoulder.  At this rate, he's about to get banned from doing the ordering, but he doesn't seem to want me to do it.  Anyone else's husband who has trouble doing the shopping?

If I sent DH to the shops for groceries he'd come back with a car load of crisps, beer and frey bentos pies ::)

I'm not a control freak but there's NO WAY I'd let my husband do all the grocery shopping, even if he wanted to.  I'd just set up your own account and place an order. get him some treats in it so he can't complain too much!

Oh, good lord.  Don't let them do the shopping!  If I make James a list I have to include things like if they don't have xxx, buy yyy but do NOT buy zzz. or I have to describe it like it's in a blue box.  Don't buy a red box  He's hopeless.  He won't remember bread or washing powder but he'll buy three different multipacks of Crisps.

I agree with Britwife. Make your own account.
Even if I send DH to the shops with a list if it's not something familiar to him (chips, any sort of convenience food, alcohol) he'll end up phoning me half a dozen times asking for directions to the things I want. I'm pretty sure the fresh fruit and veg isle is nothing more then the isle you need to go through in order to find the "good stuff" as far as he is concerned! AND he'd buy cheap nasty toilet paper as well. I am a toilet paper snob and I just hate the cheap stuff  :-\\\\

OMG that is too funny (though frustrating I'm sure!). I guess I'm lucky. DH has had to do quite a bit of the shopping lately as either my back has been hurting too much or I was coughing so much I sounded like I was dying. We actually prefer to go together so he's used to what we buy and is pretty good at substituting if need be.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Anyone else's husband who has trouble doing the shopping?

We're kind of the opposite way around... :-[  I'm the one who's much more likely to come home with crisps, chocolate, etc.  So I send hubby to do it on Saturday mornings & he comes home with a bag full of fruit & veg.  (Then I go out other days & come home with crisps & chocolate...)

But we're fortunate as everything is just a short walk down the street from where we live - green grocer, butcher, Morrisons.  Or in the city centre, I work in the same building as a big Morrisons & the city market isn't far away either.  (That's the big glitzy city of Leeds!)
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Oh wow, did I just get the lamest excuse.  I asked him why he got several of the things that I put away today.  One was, we needed one more day's worth of meat to make it a full week, fair enough.  But apparently, I forgot to mention at the exact moment he was ordering that I wanted some salad makings.  And he couldn't find proper sponges on the list so we have this new duck sponge thing.  Duck sponge isn't going to help me clean whatever was spilled on the counter and is now stuck to it.  Oh, and btw, I was busy so that's why he ordered.  FYI, I was sitting in the chair next to him listing off what we needed.   [smiley=bomb.gif]

I'm glad it's not just me though.  And Mrs. R., you're very lucky!  My dh thinks fruits and veggies are the work of the devil.  He's the only person I know who goes to a salad bar, and comes back with not one green thing on his plate.

The best part of online shopping is that we all do the shopping. One person starts the order and when they think they have finished the next person looks over and adds things. So me DH and my daughter all get our favourites, and we never take off anything anyone else put on the list. It works well for us. We do the online shop once a month and then top up with in person shops during the month---so we don't tend to overdo the treats, when they are gone they are gone. You have time to edit the shop after it is placed, so just ask if you can have the login information to add a few things when he is finished. If he doesn't agree-- then set up your own and give him the login to add some things

I'm like your hubby in that respect.

Persephone - set up your own account, you can attach a points card number to it so it would go on the same one!

That's nothing.....my best friend is a vegetarian but doesn't like vegetables!

I'm lucky with me husband!  These days I do most of the shopping anyway, but we sort of just refill on our standard items which always include lots of veggies and loads of apples, (as far as produce goes) and the only junk we ever get is crisps and pretzels only once in a while and chocolate (nothing wrong with that!) and as a treat ice cream once in a blue moon.

I'd say the only problem (not really a problem) is that my hubby will often get the more expensive version of things when the cheaper will do just fine, but it's really not that big a deal.

I have his login stuff, so this is partly my own fault because I believe him when he says he got everything.   ;)  He's just a muppet sometimes.  He remembers all his stuff for the packed lunches he takes to work.  He just "forgets" the healthy stuff.

I'd say the only problem (not really a problem) is that my hubby will often get the more expensive version of things when the cheaper will do just fine, but it's really not that big a deal.

Yeah, we had a huge conversation about that when we had some very tight months before. He's actually doing better about that one.
